Ajani's Chosen

Whenever an enchantment enters the battlefield under your control, create a 2/2 white Cat creature token. If that enchantment is an Aura, you may attach it to the token.

If you cast an Aura targeting an opponent or a permanent controlled by an opponent, you control that Aura when it enters the battlefield. The ability of Ajani's Chosen will trigger.

The ability doesn't trigger until the enchantment enters the battlefield. This means that, for example, you can't cast an Aura with enchant creature if there are no legal targets available, hoping to enchant the Cat token. Ajani's Chosen itself, however, may be a legal target for the Aura.

You may attach the Aura to the Cat token only if the Aura and the token are both on the battlefield when the triggered ability resolves. If the Aura leaves the battlefield before the ability resolves, it won't become attached to the token. If the token leaves the battlefield before the ability resolves, the Aura won't move.

You may attach the Aura to the token only if it can legally enchant that token. For example, if the enchantment that entered the battlefield is an Aura with "enchant land," it won't move.

Alela, Cunning Conqueror

Flying
Whenever you cast your first spell during each opponent's turn, create a 1/1 black Faerie Rogue creature token with flying.
Whenever one or more Faeries you control deal combat damage to a player, goad target creature that player controls.

Normally, combat damage is dealt all at the same time. In that case, Alela, Cunning Conqueror's last ability triggers once for each player that Faeries you control dealt combat damage to, regardless of how many creatures were dealing that damage. If any of those Faeries have double strike or first strike, the ability will trigger once for each player dealt damage in each combat damage step.

The masks, like the ancient trees they're grown from, lend strength to the dryads.

Ancestral Mask

Angelic Destiny

Enchant creature
Enchanted creature gets +4/+4, has flying and first strike, and is an Angel in addition to its other types.
When enchanted creature dies, return Angelic Destiny to its owner's hand.

If Angelic Destiny is no longer in a graveyard when its triggered ability resolves, it won't be returned to its owner's hand.

If the creature dies before the Angelic Destiny spell resolves, Angelic Destiny will go to its owner's graveyard. It won't return to its owner's hand.

Arcane Denial

Counter target spell. Its controller may draw up to two cards at the beginning of the next turn's upkeep.
You draw a card at the beginning of the next turn's upkeep.

The controller of the countered spell doesn't choose how many cards to draw until the relevant ability resolves. The player may draw 0, 1, or 2 cards. They choose the number before drawing any cards.

It started as a mere drop of water. The Magic Mirror crystallized it into much more.

Arcane Signet

{T}: Add one mana of any color in your commander's color identity.

If you don't have a commander, Arcane Signet's ability produces no mana.

If you have two commanders, the ability adds one mana of any color in their combined color identities.

If your commander is a card that has no colors in its color identity, Arcane Signet's ability produces no mana. It doesn't produce {C}.

Archmage of Echoes

Flying, ward {2}
Whenever you cast a Faerie or Wizard permanent spell, copy it. (The copy becomes a token.)

A resolving copy of a permanent spell becomes a token, so the token isn't "created." Effects that care about a token being created won't interact with a token that enters the battlefield from Archmage of Echoes's ability.

The copy remembers any decisions that were made for the original spell as it was cast, including values chosen for X in its mana cost and whether any alternative or additional costs were chosen. For example, if the original creature spell had kicker and its kicker cost was paid, the copy will also be kicked.

Archon of Sun's Grace

Flying, lifelink
Pegasus creatures you control have lifelink.
Constellation — Whenever an enchantment enters the battlefield under your control, create a 2/2 white Pegasus creature token with flying.

A constellation ability triggers whenever an enchantment enters the battlefield under your control for any reason. Enchantments with other card types, such as enchantment creatures, will also cause constellation abilities to trigger.

An Aura spell that has an illegal target when it tries to resolve doesn't resolve and is instead put into its owner's graveyard. It doesn't enter the battlefield, so constellation abilities don't trigger.

Multiple instances of lifelink on the same creature are redundant.

Kill a gnarlid with your first blow, or it'll cheerfully show you how it's done.

Aura Gnarlid

Creatures with power less than Aura Gnarlid's power can't block it.
Aura Gnarlid gets +1/+1 for each Aura on the battlefield.

Aura Gnarlid's second ability counts each Aura regardless of who controls it.

The power of each potential blocking creature is checked against Aura Gnarlid's power only as blockers are declared. Once a creature blocks Aura Gnarlid, increasing the Gnarlid's power or decreasing the blocking creature's power won't undo that block.

Austere Command

Choose two —
• Destroy all artifacts.
• Destroy all enchantments.
• Destroy all creatures with mana value 3 or less.
• Destroy all creatures with mana value 4 or greater.

Each of the chosen modes happens sequentially. If a permanent has an ability that triggers whenever it or another permanent is destroyed, it will see permanents destroyed at the same time as it or before it, but not permanents destroyed by later modes.

If a card is exiled "until" another permanent leaves the battlefield, the exiled card returns to the battlefield immediately after that permanent leaves the battlefield during Austere Command's resolution, and it may be destroyed by a later mode.

If the first and last modes are chosen, an artifact creature with mana value 4 or greater will have to be regenerated twice to survive. This is because the modes happen sequentially, and the regeneration "shield" is used up by the first one. The same is true with any other combination of modes that covers one permanent twice.

Bear Umbra

Enchanted creature gets +2/+2 and has "Whenever this creature attacks, untap all lands you control."
Totem armor (If enchanted creature would be destroyed, instead remove all damage from it and destroy this Aura.)

When the enchanted creature attacks, all lands controlled by that creature's controller (who is not necessarily the Aura's controller) untap.

If a permanent enchanted with an Aura that has totem armor has indestructible, lethal damage and effects that try to destroy it simply have no effect. Totem armor won't do anything because it won't have to.

If a permanent enchanted with an Aura that has totem armor would be destroyed by multiple state-based actions at the same time (most likely because a creature with deathtouch has dealt damage to that creature greater than or equal to its toughness) totem armor's effect will replace all of them and save the creature.

If a permanent you control is enchanted with multiple Auras that have totem armor, and the enchanted permanent would be destroyed, one of those Auras is destroyed instead — but only one of them. You choose which one because you control the enchanted permanent.

If a spell or ability (such as Akroma's Vengeance) would destroy both an Aura with totem armor and the permanent it's enchanting at the same time, totem armor's effect will save the enchanted permanent from being destroyed. Instead, the spell or ability will destroy the Aura in two different ways at the same time, but the result is the same as destroying it once.

If a spell or ability says that it would "destroy" a permanent enchanted with an Aura that has totem armor, that spell or ability is what causes the Aura to be destroyed instead. Totem armor doesn't destroy the Aura; rather, it changes the effects of the spell or ability. On the other hand, if a spell or ability deals lethal damage to a creature enchanted with an Aura that has totem armor, the game rules regarding lethal damage cause the Aura to be destroyed, not that spell or ability.

Totem armor has no effect if the enchanted permanent is put into a graveyard for any other reason, such as if it's sacrificed, if the "legend rule" applies to it, or if its toughness is 0 or less.

Totem armor's effect is applied no matter why the enchanted permanent would be destroyed: because it's been dealt lethal damage, or because it's being affected by an effect that says to "destroy" it (such as Putrefy). In either case, all damage is removed from the permanent and the Aura is destroyed instead.

Totem armor's effect is mandatory. If the enchanted permanent would be destroyed, you must remove all damage from it (if it has any) and destroy the Aura that has totem armor instead.

Totem armor's effect is not regeneration. Specifically, if totem armor's effect is applied, the enchanted permanent does not become tapped and is not removed from combat as a result. Effects that say the enchanted permanent can't be regenerated (as Putrefy does) won't prevent totem armor's effect from being applied.

Enchant creature

Blightwing Bandit

Whenever you cast your first spell during each opponent's turn, look at the top card of that player's library, then exile it face down. You may play that card for as long as it remains exiled, and mana of any type can be spent to cast it.

Blightwing Bandit doesn't change when you can cast a spell. For example, if you exile a creature card without flash, you can cast it only during your main phase when the stack is empty.

Casting an exiled card causes it to leave exile. You can't cast it multiple times.

If you leave the game, the cards remain exiled face down indefinitely. No player may look at them.

The six types of mana are white, blue, black, red, green, and colorless. Snow mana is not a type of mana. Blightwing Bandit won't let you pay a snow cost using mana produced by a nonsnow source.

You may look at and cast the exiled cards (and spend mana of any type to do so) even if Blightwing Bandit leaves the battlefield. If another player gains control of Blightwing Bandit, that player can't look at or cast the cards, and you still can.

You pay the costs for an exiled card if you cast it. You may pay any alternative costs the card has rather than the card's mana cost.

Bojuka Bog

Bojuka Bog enters the battlefield tapped.
When Bojuka Bog enters the battlefield, exile target player's graveyard.

Brazen Borrower // Petty Theft

An adventurer card is a creature card in every zone except the stack, as well as while on the stack if not cast as an Adventure. Ignore its alternative characteristics in those cases. For example, while it's in your graveyard, Giant Killer is a white creature card whose mana value is 1. It can't be the target of the triggered ability of Mystic Sanctuary.

Casting a card as an Adventure isn't casting it for an alternative cost. Effects that allow you to cast a spell for an alternative cost or without paying its mana cost may allow you to apply those to the Adventure.

If a spell is cast as an Adventure, its controller exiles it instead of putting it into its owner's graveyard as it resolves. For as long as it remains exiled, that player may cast it as a creature spell. If an Adventure spell leaves the stack in any way other than resolving (most likely by being countered or by failing to resolve because its targets have all become illegal), that card won't be exiled and the spell's controller won't be able to cast it as a creature later.

If an adventurer card ends up in exile for any other reason than by exiling itself while resolving, it won't give you permission to cast it as a creature spell.

If an effect copies an Adventure spell, that copy is exiled as it resolves. It ceases to exist as a state-based action; it's not possible to cast the copy as a creature.

If an effect instructs you to choose a card name, you may choose the alternative Adventure name. Consider only the alternative characteristics to determine whether that is an appropriate name to choose.

If an object becomes a copy of an object that has an Adventure, the copy also has an Adventure. If it changes zones, it will either cease to exist (if it's a token) or cease to be a copy (if it's a nontoken permanent), and so you won't be able to cast it as an Adventure.

If you cast an adventurer card as an Adventure, use only its alternative characteristics to determine whether it's legal to cast that spell. For example, if Giant Killer is exiled with the last ability of Vivien, Champion of the Wilds, you can't cast it as Chop Down.

When casting a spell as an Adventure, use the alternative characteristics and ignore all of the card's normal characteristics. The spell's color, mana cost, mana value, and so on are determined by only those alternative characteristics. If the spell leaves the stack, it immediately resumes using its normal characteristics.

You must still follow any timing restrictions and permissions for the creature spell you cast from exile. Normally, you'll be able to cast it only during your main phase while the stack is empty.

Each creature you control that's a Food or a Golem gets +2/+2 and has trample.
Whenever another nontoken creature you control dies, you may exile it. If you do, create a token that's a copy of that creature, except it's a 1/1 Food Golem artifact creature in addition to its other types and it has "{2}, {T}, Sacrifice this artifact: You gain 3 life."

Any enters-the-battlefield abilities of the copied creature will trigger when the token enters the battlefield. Any "as [this creature] enters the battlefield" or "[this creature] enters the battlefield with" abilities of the creature will also work.

Except for the listed exceptions, the token copies exactly what was printed on the original creature and nothing else (unless that creature was itself copying something else; see below). It doesn't copy whether that permanent was tapped or untapped, whether it had any counters on it or Auras attached to it, or any non-copy effects that changed its power, toughness, types, color, and so on.

Food is an artifact type. Even though it appears on some creatures, it's never a creature type.

If an effect refers to a Food, it means any Food artifact, not just a Food artifact token. For example, you can sacrifice Tough Cookie to activate the last ability of Sweettooth Witch.

If something becomes a copy of the token, the copy also has base power and toughness 1/1, is a Food Golem artifact creature in addition to its other types, and has "{2}, {T}, Sacrifice this artifact: You gain 3 life."

If the copied creature had {X} in its mana cost, X is 0.

If the copied creature was copying something else, then the token enters the battlefield as whatever that creature copied, with the stated exceptions.

Some spells and abilities that create Food tokens may require targets. If each target chosen is an illegal target as that spell or ability tries to resolve, it won't resolve. You won't create any Food tokens.

Whatever you do, don't eat the delicious cards.

You can't sacrifice a Food to pay multiple costs. For example, you can't sacrifice a Food token to activate its own ability and also to activate the last ability of Sweettooth Witch.

The continent of Murasa lies beneath a blanket of dense vegetation, its enormous branches tangled so thickly that some inhabitants never see the ground.

Canopy Vista

Canopy Vista enters the battlefield tapped unless you control two or more basic lands.

Even though these lands have basic land types, they are not basic lands because "basic" doesn't appear on their type line. Notably, controlling two or more of them won't allow others to enter the battlefield untapped.

However, because these cards have basic land types, effects that specify a basic land type without also specifying that the land be basic can affect them. For example, a spell or ability that reads "Destroy target Forest" can target Canopy Vista, while one that reads "Destroy target basic Forest" cannot.

If one of these lands enters the battlefield at the same time as any number of basic lands, those other lands are not counted when determining if this land enters the battlefield tapped or untapped.

Careful Cultivation

Enchant artifact or creature
As long as enchanted permanent is a creature, it gets +1/+3 and has reach and "{T}: Add {G}{G}."

Discarding the card is part of the cost to activate a channel ability.

If a channel ability requires a target, you may not activate it without a target just to discard the card.

Without Ardenvale's loyalty, the realm would greedily devour itself.

Castle Ardenvale

Castle Ardenvale enters the battlefield tapped unless you control a Plains.

{2}{W}{W}, {T}: Create a 1/1 white Human creature token.

Although the common lands have basic land types, they aren't basic lands.

Once the common lands (such as Mystic Sanctuary) enter the battlefield tapped, there's no way to untap them with a spell or ability to make their last ability trigger.

Celestial Archon

Bestow {5}{W}{W} (If you cast this card for its bestow cost, it's an Aura spell with enchant creature. It becomes a creature again if it's not attached to a creature.)

Enchanted creature gets +4/+4 and has flying and first strike.

A spell with bestow is either a creature spell or an Aura spell. It's never both. Similarly, a permanent with bestow is either a creature or an Aura, but not both.

Auras attached to a creature don't become tapped when the creature becomes tapped. Except in some rare cases, an Aura with bestow remains untapped when it becomes unattached and becomes a creature.

Bestow is an alternative cost to cast the spell with bestow. It can't be combined with other alternative costs, such as casting a spell "without paying its mana cost."

If a permanent with bestow enters the battlefield by any method other than being cast, it will be an enchantment creature. You can't choose to pay the bestow cost and have it become an Aura.

To determine the total cost of a spell, start with the mana cost or alternative cost (such as a bestow cost) you're paying, add any cost increases, then apply any cost reductions. The mana value of the spell remains unchanged, no matter what the total cost to cast it was.

Unlike other Aura spells, an Aura spell with bestow still resolves if its target is illegal. Instead of entering the battlefield as an Aura, the effect making it an Aura spell ends, it loses enchant creature, and it resolves and enters the battlefield as an enchantment creature.

Unlike other Auras, an Aura with bestow isn't put into its owner's graveyard if the enchanted creature leaves the battlefield or becomes an illegal creature for the Aura to enchant. Rather, the effect making it an Aura ends, it loses enchant creature, and it remains on the battlefield as an enchantment creature. It can attack (and its abilities can be activated, if it has any) on the turn it becomes unattached if it's been under your control continuously, even as an Aura, since your most recent turn began.

Choked Estuary

As Choked Estuary enters the battlefield, you may reveal an Island or Swamp card from your hand. If you don't, Choked Estuary enters the battlefield tapped.

If an Island or Swamp is entering the battlefield from your hand at the same time as Choked Estuary, you may reveal the other land to have Choked Estuary enter untapped.

If an effect instructs you to put Choked Estuary onto the battlefield tapped, it will still enter the battlefield tapped even if you reveal a land card from your hand.

Lands don't have a subtype just because they can produce mana of the corresponding color. Choked Estuary itself is neither an Island nor a Swamp, even though it produces blue and black mana, so you can't reveal one to satisfy the ability of another.

You may reveal any land card with either or both of the appropriate subtypes. It doesn't have to be a basic land. For example, you could reveal Prairie Stream from the Battle for Zendikar set to satisfy the ability of Choked Estuary.

Cloud of Faeries

Flying
When Cloud of Faeries enters the battlefield, untap up to two lands.
Cycling {2} ({2}, Discard this card: Draw a card.)

You choose which lands to untap as the triggered ability resolves. They aren't targeted, and they don't have to be lands that you control.

When defeat is near and guidance is scarce, all eyes look in one direction.

Command Tower

If you don't have a commander, Command Tower's ability produces no mana.

If your commander is a card that has no colors in its color identity, Command Tower's ability produces no mana. It doesn't produce {C}.

Court of Ardenvale

When Court of Ardenvale enters the battlefield, you become the monarch.
At the beginning of your upkeep, return target permanent card with mana value 3 or less from your graveyard to your hand. If you're the monarch, return that permanent card to the battlefield instead.

If combat damage dealt to the monarch causes that player to lose the game, the triggered ability that causes the controller of the attacking creature to become the monarch doesn't resolve. In most cases, the controller of the attacking creature will still become the monarch as it is likely their turn.

If the monarch leaves the game during another player's turn, that player becomes the monarch. If the monarch leaves the game during their turn, the next player in turn order becomes the monarch.

If the triggered ability that causes the monarch to draw a card goes on the stack and a different player becomes the monarch before that ability resolves, the first player will still draw the card.

The game starts with no monarch. As a player becomes the monarch, the current monarch (if any) ceases being the monarch. There is never more than one monarch at a time.

There are two inherent triggered abilities associated with being the monarch. These triggered abilities have no source and are controlled by the player who was the monarch at the time the abilities triggered. The full texts of these abilities are "At the beginning of the monarch's end step, that player draws a card" and "Whenever a creature deals combat damage to the monarch, its controller becomes the monarch."

Court of Embereth

When Court of Embereth enters the battlefield, you become the monarch.
At the beginning of your upkeep, create a 3/1 red Knight creature token. Then if you're the monarch, Court of Embereth deals X damage to each opponent, where X is the number of creatures you control.

Court of Garenbrig

When Court of Garenbrig enters the battlefield, you become the monarch.
At the beginning of your upkeep, distribute two +1/+1 counters among up to two target creatures. Then if you're the monarch, double the number of +1/+1 counters on each creature you control.

If some of the creatures are illegal targets as Court of Garenbrig's last ability tries to resolve, the original distribution of counters still applies and the counters that would have been put on illegal targets are lost.

To double the number of +1/+1 counters on a permanent, put a number of +1/+1 counters on it equal to the number it already has. Other cards that interact with putting counters on it will interact with this effect accordingly.

You choose how the counters will be distributed as you put Court of Garenbrig's last ability on the stack. Each target must receive at least one +1/+1 counter.

Court of Locthwain

When Court of Locthwain enters the battlefield, you become the monarch.
At the beginning of your upkeep, exile the top card of target opponent's library. You may play that card for as long as it remains exiled, and mana of any type can be spent to cast it. If you're the monarch, until end of turn, you may cast a spell from among cards exiled with Court of Locthwain without paying its mana cost.

The six types of mana are white, blue, black, red, green, and colorless. Snow mana is not a type of mana. Court of Locthwain won't let you pay a snow cost using mana produced by a nonsnow source.

You may play the exiled cards (and spend mana of any type to do so) even if Court of Locthwain leaves the battlefield. If another player gains control of Court of Locthwain, that player can't play the cards, and you still can.

Court of Vantress

When Court of Vantress enters the battlefield, you become the monarch.
At the beginning of your upkeep, choose up to one other target enchantment or artifact. If you're the monarch, you may create a token that's a copy of it. If you're not the monarch, you may have Court of Vantress become a copy of it, except it has this ability.

Any enters-the-battlefield abilities of the copied permanent will trigger when the token enters the battlefield. Any "as [this permanent] enters the battlefield" or "[this permanent] enters the battlefield with" abilities of the permanent will also work.

Court of Vantress copies the printed values of the enchantment or artifact plus any copy effects that have been applied to it.

If Court of Vantress becomes a copy of a token, it copies the original characteristics of that token as defined by the effect that put it onto the battlefield. It won't become a token.

If Court of Vantress becomes a copy of an Aura, it's put into its owner's graveyard unless it's somehow attached to an appropriate object or player already. If it becomes a copy of an Equipment and is attached to a creature, it'll become unattached when it becomes a non-Equipment, non-Aura permanent.

If another permanent becomes a copy of Court of Vantress, it will become a copy of whatever Court of Vantress is currently copying (if anything) that also has Court of Vantress's last ability.

If the copied permanent has {X} in its mana cost, X is 0.

If the copied permanent is copying something else, then the token enters the battlefield as whatever that permanent copied, with the stated exceptions.

The copy effect lasts indefinitely. Often, it will last until it is overwritten by another copy effect (if it copies another permanent on a future turn, perhaps).

The token copies exactly what was printed on the original permanent and nothing else (unless that permanent is itself copying something else; see below). It doesn't copy whether that permanent is tapped or untapped, whether it has any counters on it or Auras attached to it, or any non-copy effects that have changed its power, toughness, types, color, and so on.

When Court of Vantress becomes a copy of a permanent, it's neither entering nor leaving the battlefield. Any enters-the-battlefield or leaves-the-battlefield abilities won't trigger.

Daybreak Coronet

Enchanted creature gets +3/+3 and has first strike, vigilance, and lifelink.

If all other Auras attached to the enchanted creature stop enchanting it, Daybreak Coronet will be attached to an illegal permanent and will be put into its owner's graveyard.

If multiple Auras are entering the battlefield at the same time, you choose which player or permanent each enchants before any of them enter the battlefield. This means that Daybreak Coronet can't be put onto the battlefield enchanting a creature that's not enchanted before the Auras all enter the battlefield.

Destiny Spinner

Creature and enchantment spells you control can't be countered.
{3}{G}: Target land you control becomes an X/X Elemental creature with trample and haste until end of turn, where X is the number of enchantments you control. It's still a land.

A spell or ability that counters spells can still target spells that can't be countered. When that spell or ability resolves, the uncounterable spell won't be countered, but any additional effects of the countering spell or ability will still happen.

Destiny Spinner's activated ability doesn't untap the land that becomes a creature.

Destiny Spinner's first ability applies only while it's on the battlefield. While it's a spell, it can be countered.

If you activate Destiny Spinner's ability more than once in a turn, the value of X may be different each time. If you choose the same land as the target more than once, the most recent effect (and most recent value of X) applies.

If you control no enchantments at the time Destiny Spinner's activated ability resolves, the land becomes a 0/0 creature and is put into its owner's graveyard unless another effect is raising its toughness.

The value of X is determined only as Destiny Spinner's activated ability resolves. Once that happens, the creature's base power and toughness won't change later in the turn even if the number of enchantments you control changes.
