Aether Vial

If Aether Vial leaves the battlefield while its second ability is on the stack, use its last known number of charge counters to determine what you may put from your hand onto the battlefield.

If a card in a player’s hand has {X} in its mana cost, X is considered to be 0.

At the beginning of your upkeep, you may put a charge counter on Aether Vial.
{T}: You may put a creature card with mana value equal to the number of charge counters on Aether Vial from your hand onto the battlefield.

Ajani Goldmane

The power and toughness of the Avatar created by the third ability will change as your life total changes.

The vigilance granted to a creature by the second ability remains until the end of the turn even if the +1/+1 counter is removed.

[+1]: You gain 2 life.
[−1]: Put a +1/+1 counter on each creature you control. Those creatures gain vigilance until end of turn.
[−6]: Create a white Avatar creature token. It has "This creature's power and toughness are each equal to your life total."

Arcbound Ravager

If this creature gets enough -1/-1 counters put on it to cause its toughness to be 0 or less (or the damage marked on it to be lethal), modular will put a number of +1/+1 counters on the target artifact creature equal to the number of +1/+1 counters on this creature before it left the battlefield.

Sacrifice an artifact: Put a +1/+1 counter on Arcbound Ravager.
Modular 1 (This creature enters with a +1/+1 counter on it. When it dies, you may put its +1/+1 counters on target artifact creature.)

Avatar of Woe

The mana value of this card is still 8, even if you only pay {B}{B} to cast it.

If there are ten or more creature cards total in all graveyards, this spell costs {6} less to cast.
Fear (This creature can't be blocked except by artifact creatures and/or black creatures.)
{T}: Destroy target creature. It can't be regenerated.

Cryptic Command

Look at both chosen modes to determine how many targets Cryptic Command has, if any. If it has at least one target, and all its targets are illegal when it tries to resolve, then it won’t resolve and none of its effects will happen. For example, if you choose the second and fourth modes, and the permanent is an illegal target when Cryptic Command tries to resolve, you won’t draw a card.

You choose both modes as you cast Cryptic Command. You must choose two different modes.

Choose two —
• Counter target spell.
• Return target permanent to its owner's hand.
• Tap all creatures your opponents control.
• Draw a card.

Emrakul, the Aeons Torn

Annihilator abilities trigger and resolve during the declare attackers step. The defending player chooses and sacrifices the required number of permanents before they declare blockers. Any creatures sacrificed this way won't be able to block.

If a creature with annihilator is attacking a planeswalker, and the defending player chooses to sacrifice that planeswalker, the attacking creature continues to attack. It may be blocked. If it isn't blocked, it simply won't deal combat damage to anything.

"Colored spells" is not synonymous with "colored cards." For example, even though creatures are spells when they're cast, they're not spells when they're on the battlefield and can block Emrakul; and triggered abilities of permanents entering the battlefield (such as that of Banishing Light) can target it.

Emrakul can be targeted by spells that try to counter it (such as Ionize). Those spells will resolve, but the part of their effect that would counter Emrakul won't do anything. Any other effects those spells have will work as normal.

Emrakul can't be the target of colored Aura spells, but colored Auras can be put onto the battlefield enchanting it.

Emrakul's second ability triggers as you cast it, and that ability resolves before the spell itself. It resolves even if that spell is somehow removed from the stack.

This spell can't be countered.
When you cast this spell, take an extra turn after this one.

When Emrakul, the Aeons Torn is put into a graveyard from anywhere, its owner shuffles their graveyard into their library.

Eternal Dragon

Plainscycling is a form of cycling. Any ability that triggers on a card being cycled also triggers on Plainscycling this card. Any ability that stops a cycling ability from being activated also stops Plainscycling from being activated.

Plainscycling is an activated ability. Effects that interact with activated abilities (such as Stifle or Rings of Brighthearth) will interact with Plainscycling. Effects that interact with spells (such as Remove Soul or Faerie Tauntings) will not.

Unlike the normal cycling ability, Plainscycling doesn't allow you to draw a card. Instead, it lets you search your library for a Plains card. After you find a Plains card in your library, you reveal it, put it into your hand, then shuffle your library.

You can choose to find any card with the Plains land type, including nonbasic lands. You can also choose not to find a card, even if there is a Plains card in your library.

Flying
{3}{W}{W}: Return Eternal Dragon from your graveyard to your hand. Activate only during your upkeep.
Plainscycling {2} ({2}, Discard this card: Search your library for a Plains card, reveal it, put it into your hand, then shuffle.)

Lava Spike

Arcane is a spell subtype that has no inherent rules meaning. It may be referenced by effects from other cards.

Lava Spike deals 3 damage to target player or planeswalker.

Liliana of the Veil

A pile can be empty. If the player chooses an empty pile, no permanents will be sacrificed.

When Liliana’s first ability resolves, first the player whose turn it is chooses a card in hand without revealing it, then each other player in turn order does the same. Then all the chosen cards are discarded at the same time.

When Liliana’s third ability resolves, you put each permanent the player controls into one of the two piles. For example, you could put a creature into one pile and an Aura enchanting that creature into the other pile.

You can activate Liliana’s first ability even if some or all players will be unable to discard a card.

[+1]: Each player discards a card.
[−2]: Target player sacrifices a creature.
[−6]: Separate all permanents target player controls into two piles. That player sacrifices all permanents in the pile of their choice.

Mirari's Wake

Because damage remains marked on a creature until the cleanup step or an effect removes that damage, nonlethal damage dealt to creatures you control may become lethal if Mirari's Wake leaves the battlefield.

If tapping a land produces more than one type of mana, you choose one type that was produced and add one mana of that type.

If the mana produced by the land has any additional restrictions or riders, those restrictions or riders don't apply to the mana added by Mirari's Wake. You just get one mana of the appropriate type.

The types of mana are white, blue, black, red, green, and colorless.

Creatures you control get +1/+1.
Whenever you tap a land for mana, add one mana of any type that land produced.

She protects the sacred groves from blight, drought, and the Unbeholden.

Noble Hierarch

If you declare exactly one creature as an attacker, each exalted ability on each permanent you control (including, perhaps, the attacking creature itself) will trigger.

In a Two-Headed Giant game, a creature “attacks alone” if it's the only creature declared as an attacker by your entire team. If you control that attacking creature, your exalted abilities will trigger but your teammate's exalted abilities won't.

Some effects put creatures onto the battlefield attacking. Since those creatures were never declared as attackers, they're ignored by exalted abilities. They won't cause exalted abilities to trigger. If any exalted abilities have already triggered (because exactly one creature was declared as an attacker), those abilities will resolve as normal even though there may now be multiple attackers.

You must attack with exactly one creature for exalted abilities to trigger. Exalted abilities won't trigger if you attack a player with one creature and a planeswalker with another, for example, or if you attack with two creatures but one is removed from combat.

Exalted (Whenever a creature you control attacks alone, that creature gets +1/+1 until end of turn.)
{T}: Add {G}, {W}, or {U}.

Nykthos, Shrine to Nyx

Hybrid mana symbols, monocolored hybrid mana symbols, and Phyrexian mana symbols do count toward your devotion to their color(s).

If an activated ability or triggered ability has an effect that depends on your devotion to a color, you count the number of mana symbols of that color among the mana costs of permanents you control as the ability resolves. The permanent with that ability will be counted if it's still on the battlefield at that time.

Mana symbols in the text boxes of permanents you control don't count toward your devotion to any color.

Numeric mana symbols ({0}, {1}, and so on) in mana costs of permanents you control don't count toward your devotion to any color.

The second ability is a mana ability. It doesn't use the stack and can't be responded to.

{T}: Add {C}.
{2}, {T}: Choose a color. Add an amount of mana of that color equal to your devotion to that color. (Your devotion to a color is the number of mana symbols of that color in the mana costs of permanents you control.)

Snapcaster Mage

"Flashback [cost]" means "You may cast this card from your graveyard by paying [cost] rather than paying its mana cost" and "If the flashback cost was paid, exile this card instead of putting it anywhere else any time it would leave the stack."

A spell cast using flashback will always be exiled afterward, whether it resolves, is countered, or leaves the stack in some other way.

If a card has multiple instances of flashback, you may choose any of its flashback costs to pay.

If a card with flashback is put into your graveyard during your turn, you can cast it if it's legal to do so before any other player can take any actions.

If a card with no mana cost gains flashback, it has no flashback cost. It can't be cast this way.

If a split card gains flashback, you pay only the cost of the half you're casting.

If you cast a spell with flashback, you can't pay any alternative costs such as overload costs. You can pay additional costs such as kicker costs. If the spell has any mandatory additional costs, you must pay those to cast the spell with flashback.

If you cast an instant or sorcery with {X} in its mana cost this way, you still choose the value of X as part of casting the spell and pay that cost.

To determine the total cost of a spell, start with the mana cost or alternative cost (such as a flashback cost) you're paying, add any cost increases, then apply any cost reductions. The mana value of the spell is determined only by its mana cost, no matter what the total cost to cast the spell was.

You can cast a spell using flashback even if it was somehow put into your graveyard without having been cast.

You must still follow any timing restrictions and permissions, including those based on the card's type. For instance, you can cast a sorcery using flashback only when you could normally cast a sorcery.

Flash
When Snapcaster Mage enters, target instant or sorcery card in your graveyard gains flashback until end of turn. The flashback cost is equal to its mana cost. (You may cast that card from your graveyard for its flashback cost. Then exile it.)

Teferi, Hero of Dominaria

You choose the target for the triggered ability of Teferi’s emblem after you’ve seen the card you drew.

You don’t decide which two lands to untap until the next end step.

[+1]: Draw a card. At the beginning of the next end step, untap up to two lands.
[−3]: Put target nonland permanent into its owner's library third from the top.
[−8]: You get an emblem with "Whenever you draw a card, exile target permanent an opponent controls."

Treva, the Renewer

You choose the color during resolution. This means your opponent does not get to react after knowing the color you chose.

Flying
Whenever Treva, the Renewer deals combat damage to a player, you may pay {2}{W}. If you do, choose a color, then you gain 1 life for each permanent of that color.
