Academy at Tolaria West

At the beginning of your end step, if you have no cards in hand, draw seven cards.
Whenever you roll {Chaos}, discard your hand.

A face-up plane card that's turned face down becomes a new object with no relation to its previous existence. In particular, it loses all counters it may have had.

A plane card is treated as if its text box included "When you roll {PW}, put this card on the bottom of its owner's planar deck face down, then move the top card of your planar deck off that planar deck and turn it face up." This is called the "planeswalking ability."

Academy at Tolaria West's first ability has an "intervening 'if' clause." That means (1) the ability won't trigger at all unless you have no cards in hand as your end step begins, and (2) the ability will do nothing unless you have no cards in hand by the time it resolves.

If an ability of a plane refers to "you," it's referring to whoever the plane's controller is at the time, not to the player that started the game with that plane card in their deck. Many abilities of plane cards affect all players, while many others affect only the planar controller, so read each ability carefully.

If you discard your hand as a result of rolling {CHAOS}, Academy at Tolaria West's first ability will then trigger at the beginning of your end step (unless you planeswalk or somehow put a card in your hand before then).

The controller of a face-up plane card is the player designated as the "planar controller." Normally, the planar controller is whoever the active player is. However, if the current planar controller would leave the game, instead the next player in turn order that wouldn't leave the game becomes the planar controller, then the old planar controller leaves the game. The new planar controller retains that designation until they leave the game or a different player becomes the active player, whichever comes first.

At the beginning of your end step, if you have no cards in hand, draw seven cards.

Agyrem

Whenever a white creature dies, return it to the battlefield under its owner's control at the beginning of the next end step.
Whenever a nonwhite creature dies, return it to its owner's hand at the beginning of the next end step.
Whenever you roll {Chaos}, creatures can't attack you until a player planeswalks.

A creature that caused either of Agyrem's first two abilities to trigger will be returned at the beginning of the next end step even if it's not a creature card. (For example, if it's a Treetop Village.)

Agyrem's first ability will return a card to the battlefield only if it's still in the graveyard by the time the delayed triggered ability resolves. Similarly, Agyrem's second ability will return a card to its owner's hand only if it's still in the graveyard by the time the delayed triggered ability resolves.

Agyrem's first and second abilities each set up a delayed triggered ability. These abilities will trigger at the beginning of the next end step even if Agyrem is no longer the face-up plane card.

If a creature is put into a graveyard from the battlefield, its last existence on the battlefield is checked to determine its color.

If a token creature is put into a graveyard from the battlefield, one of Agyrem's first two abilities will trigger, but the token will cease to exist long before it would be returned somewhere.

If multiple creatures are put into their owners' graveyards at the same time (due to combat damage or Planar Cleansing, for example), Agyrem's first two abilities trigger that many times. At the beginning of the next end step, the player whose turn it is at that time puts all of their Agyrem delayed triggered abilities on the stack in any order, then each other player in turn order does the same. The last ability put on the stack is the first one that resolves. The creatures are returned one at a time.

If you're affected by the chaos ability, creatures will still be able to attack planeswalkers you control.

Whenever a white creature dies, return it to the battlefield under its owner's control at the beginning of the next end step.
Whenever a nonwhite creature dies, return it to its owner's hand at the beginning of the next end step.
Whenever chaos ensues, creatures can't attack you until a player planeswalks.

Akoum

Players may cast enchantment cards as though they had flash.
Whenever you roll {Chaos}, destroy target creature that isn't enchanted.

A creature that’s enchanted can’t be chosen as the target of the chaos ability.

If a creature that isn’t enchanted is targeted by the chaos ability, but that creature is enchanted when that ability tries to resolve, the ability won’t resolve for having an illegal target.

Players may cast enchantment spells as though they had flash.
Whenever chaos ensues, destroy target creature that isn't enchanted.

Aretopolis

When you planeswalk to Aretopolis or at the beginning of your upkeep, put a scroll counter on Aretopolis, then you gain life equal to the number of scroll counters on it.
When Aretopolis has ten or more scroll counters on it, planeswalk.
Whenever you roll {Chaos}, put a scroll counter on Aretopolis, then draw cards equal to the number of scroll counters on it.

For both abilities that count the number of scroll counters on Aretopolis, count all scroll counters on it, not just ones you put there.

When you planeswalk to Aretopolis and at the beginning of your upkeep, put a scroll counter on Aretopolis, then you gain life equal to the number of scroll counters on it.
When Aretopolis has ten or more scroll counters on it, planeswalk.
Whenever chaos ensues, put a scroll counter on Aretopolis, then draw cards equal to the number of scroll counters on it.

Astral Arena

No more than one creature can attack each combat.
No more than one creature can block each combat.
Whenever you roll {Chaos}, Astral Arena deals 2 damage to each creature.

Astral Arena’s abilities stop more than one creature from being declared as an attacker or as a blocker each combat. However, it doesn’t affect creatures that are put onto the battlefield attacking or blocking.

If a turn has multiple combat phases, either a different creature or the same one can attack or block in each of them.

Whenever chaos ensues, Astral Arena deals 2 damage to each creature.

Bant

All creatures have exalted. (Whenever a creature attacks alone, it gets +1/+1 until end of turn for each instance of exalted among permanents its controller controls.)
Whenever you roll {Chaos}, put a divinity counter on target green, white, or blue creature. That creature has indestructible for as long as it has a divinity counter on it.

Exalted abilities will resolve before blockers are declared.

Exalted bonuses last until the turn ends. If an effect creates an additional combat phase during your turn, a creature that attacked alone during the first combat phase will still have its exalted bonuses in that new phase. If a creature attacks alone during the second combat phase, all your exalted abilities will trigger again.

If you attack with multiple creatures, but then all but one are removed from combat, your exalted abilities won't trigger.

If you declare exactly one creature as an attacker, each exalted ability on each permanent you control (including, perhaps, the attacking creature itself) will trigger. Note that if a creature has multiple instances of exalted, each one triggers separately. The bonuses are given to the attacking creature, not to the permanent with exalted. Ultimately, the attacking creature will wind up with +1/+1 for each of your exalted abilities.

In a Two-Headed Giant game, a creature "attacks alone" if it's the only creature declared as an attacker by your entire team. If you control that attacking creature, your exalted abilities will trigger but your teammate's exalted abilities won't.

Some effects put creatures onto the battlefield attacking. Since those creatures were never declared as attackers, they're ignored by exalted abilities. They won't cause exalted abilities to trigger. If any exalted abilities have already triggered (because exactly one creature was declared as an attacker), those abilities will resolve as normal even though there may now be multiple attackers.

A creature with a divinity counter put on it due to the chaos ability retains indestructible even after Bant stops being the face-up plane card.

If all divinity counters on a creature are moved to a different creature, the indestructible ability doesn't move along with them. The first creature no longer has indestructible because it no longer has a divinity counter on it. The second creature doesn't have indestructible because the chaos ability didn't target it.

All creatures have exalted. (Whenever a creature attacks alone, it gets +1/+1 until end of turn for each instance of exalted among permanents its controller controls.)
Whenever chaos ensues, put a divinity counter on target green, white, or blue creature. That creature has indestructible for as long as it has a divinity counter on it.

Bloodhill Bastion

Whenever a creature enters the battlefield, it gains double strike and haste until end of turn.
Whenever you roll {Chaos}, exile target nontoken creature you control, then return it to the battlefield under your control.

If a creature you've gained control of temporarily (because of Act of Treason, for example) is exiled and returns to the battlefield under your control, you will control that creature indefinitely.

Whenever a creature enters, it gains double strike and haste until end of turn.
Whenever chaos ensues, exile target nontoken creature you control, then return it to the battlefield under your control.

Celestine Reef

Creatures without flying or islandwalk can't attack.
Whenever you roll {Chaos}, until a player planeswalks, you can't lose the game and your opponents can't win the game.

Chaotic Aether

When you encounter Chaotic Æther, each blank roll of the planar die is a CHAOS roll until a player planeswalks away from a plane. (Then planeswalk away from this phenomenon.)

Planeswalking away from a phenomenon (as you do when resolving Chaotic Aether's ability) doesn't cause Chaotic Aether's effect to expire.

While Chaotic Aether's effect applies, rolling any blank face of the planar die will cause chaos abilities to trigger.

When you encounter Chaotic Aether, each blank roll of the planar die is a {CHAOS} roll until a player planeswalks away from a plane. (Then planeswalk away from this phenomenon.)

Cliffside Market

When you planeswalk to Cliffside Market or at the beginning of your upkeep, you may exchange life totals with target player.
Whenever you roll {Chaos}, exchange control of two target permanents that share a card type.

Both permanents targeted by the chaos ability may be controlled by the same player. If they are, the effect nothing.

For two players to exchange life totals, what actually happens is that each player gains or loses the amount of life necessary to equal the other player's previous life total. For example, if Player A has 5 life and Player B has 3 life before the exchange, Player A will lose 2 life and Player B will gain 2 life. Other cards that interact with life gain or life loss will interact with this effect accordingly.

If either permanent targeted by the chaos ability is an illegal target by the time the ability resolves, the exchange doesn't happen. If both targets become illegal, the ability doesn't resolve.

Neither permanent you target with the chaos ability needs to be one you control.

The control-change effect has no duration. For each permanent, it will last until the game ends or the permanent leaves the battlefield. It will override all previous control-change effects for those permanents, and may be overridden by a later control-change effect.

When you planeswalk to Cliffside Market and at the beginning of your upkeep, you may exchange life totals with target player.
Whenever chaos ensues, exchange control of two target permanents that share a card type.

Edge of Malacol

If a creature you control would untap during your untap step, put two +1/+1 counters on it instead.
Whenever you roll {Chaos}, untap each creature you control.

If you untap a creature you control during another player’s untap step (perhaps due to Seedborn Muse’s ability), that creature will untap normally. You won’t put any +1/+1 counters on it.

Other spells and abilities can untap creatures as normal. In that case, they’ll just untap. You won’t put any +1/+1 counters on them.

While Edge of Malacol is face up, the normal turn-based action of untapping your creatures is replaced. Those creatures won’t untap. Other tapped permanents you control will untap as normal.

If a creature you control would untap during your untap step, put two +1/+1 counters on it instead.
Whenever chaos ensues, untap each creature you control.

Eloren Wilds

Whenever a player taps a permanent for mana, that player adds one mana to his or her mana pool of any type that permanent produced.
Whenever you roll {Chaos}, target player can't cast spells until a player planeswalks.

Eloren Wilds's first ability affects any permanent players tap for mana, not just lands they tap for mana.

The additional mana is produced by Eloren Wilds, not the permanent that was tapped for mana.

The chaos ability prevents the affected player from casting permanent spells (artifacts, creatures, enchantments, and planeswalkers), not just instant and sorcery spells. It doesn't stop the player from playing lands or activating abilities (such as cycling or unearth).

You're "tapping a permanent for mana" only if you're activating an activated ability of that permanent that includes the {T} symbol in its cost and produces mana as part of its effect.

Whenever a player taps a permanent for mana, that player adds one mana of any type that permanent produced.
Whenever chaos ensues, target player can't cast spells until a player planeswalks.

Feeding Grounds

Red spells cost {1} less to cast.
Green spells cost {1} less to cast.
Whenever you roll {Chaos}, put X +1/+1 counters on target creature, where X is that creature's converted mana cost.

Spells that are both red and green cost {2} less to cast.

Red spells cost {1} less to cast.
Green spells cost {1} less to cast.
Whenever chaos ensues, put X +1/+1 counters on target creature, where X is that creature's mana value.

Fields of Summer

Whenever a player casts a spell, that player may gain 2 life.
Whenever you roll {Chaos}, you may gain 10 life.

Whenever a player casts a spell, that player may gain 2 life.
Whenever chaos ensues, you may gain 10 life.

Furnace Layer

When you planeswalk to Furnace Layer or at the beginning of your upkeep, select target player at random. That player discards a card. If that player discards a land card this way, he or she loses 3 life.
Whenever you roll {Chaos}, you may destroy target nonland permanent.

If the target player has no cards in their hand when the ability resolves, nothing happens. That player won’t lose any life.

You can be selected as the target of the first ability, not just your opponents.

When you planeswalk to Furnace Layer and at the beginning of your upkeep, select target player at random. That player discards a card. If that player discards a land card this way, they lose 3 life.
Whenever chaos ensues, you may destroy target nonland permanent.

Gavony

All creatures have vigilance.
Whenever you roll {Chaos}, creatures you control gain indestructible until end of turn.

If another player gains control of one of your creatures after the chaos ability resolves, that creature will continue to have indestructible until end of turn.

The chaos ability grants indestructible only to creatures that you control at the time it resovles. Creatures that you gain control of later in the turn will not have indestructible.

All creatures have vigilance.
Whenever chaos ensues, creatures you control gain indestructible until end of turn.

Glen Elendra

At end of combat, you may exchange control of target creature you control that dealt combat damage to a player this combat and target creature that player controls.
Whenever you roll {Chaos}, gain control of target creature you own.

If either target is no longer on the battlefield or is otherwise an illegal target when the chaos ability resolves, the exchange won’t happen. No creatures will change controllers. If both targets are illegal, the ability won’t resolve.

At end of combat, you may exchange control of target creature you control that dealt combat damage to a player this combat and target creature that player controls.
Whenever chaos ensues, gain control of target creature you own.

Glimmervoid Basin

Whenever a player casts an instant or sorcery spell with a single target, he or she copies that spell for each other spell, permanent, card not on the battlefield, and/or player the spell could target. Each copy targets a different one of them.
Whenever you roll {Chaos}, choose target creature. Each player except that creature's controller puts a token that's a copy of that creature onto the battlefield.

Anything that couldn't be targeted by the original spell (due to shroud, protection abilities, targeting restrictions, or any other reason) is just ignored by Glimmervoid Basin's first ability.

As a token is created by the chaos ability, it checks the printed values of the creature it's copying, as well as any copy effects that have been applied to it. It won't copy counters on the creature, nor will it copy other effects that have changed the creature's power, toughness, types, color, and so on.

If a spell targets multiple things, it won't cause Glimmervoid Basin's first ability to trigger, even if all but one of those targets has become illegal.

If a spell targets the same player or object multiple times, it won't cause Glimmervoid Basin's first ability to trigger.

If the spell that's copied has an X whose value was determined as it was cast (like Earthquake does), the copy has the same value of X.

If the spell that's copied is modal (that is, it says "Choose one —" or the like), the copy will have the same mode. Its controller can't choose a different one.

Other than choices involving modes or additional costs, the copies are created based on what they could target if the spell were cast anew. For example, if a player casts Naturalize ("Destroy target artifact or enchantment") targeting an artifact, Glimmervoid Basin's first ability will copy it for each artifact and enchantment it could target (and each copy will target a different one of those), not just for each artifact it could target.

The controller of a copy can't choose to pay any additional costs for the copy. However, effects based on any additional costs that were paid for the original spell are copied as though those same costs were paid for the copy too.

The controller of the spell that caused Glimmervoid Basin's first ability to trigger also controls all the copies. That player chooses the order the copies are put onto the stack. The original spell will be on the stack beneath those copies and resolves last.

The copies that Glimmervoid Basin's first ability creates are created on the stack, so they're not "cast." Abilities that trigger when a player casts a spell (like Glimmervoid Basin's first ability itself) won't trigger.

Goldmeadow

Whenever a land enters, that land's controller creates three 0/1 white Goat creature tokens.
Whenever chaos ensues, create a 0/1 white Goat creature token.

Grand Ossuary

Whenever a creature dies, its controller distributes a number of +1/+1 counters equal to its power among any number of target creatures he or she controls.
Whenever you roll {Chaos}, each player exiles all creatures he or she controls and puts X 1/1 green Saproling creature tokens onto the battlefield, where X is the total power of the creatures he or she exiled this way. Then planeswalk.

Any target that is illegal when the first ability resolves won’t get any +1/+1 counters. Those counters are essentially lost; you won’t get to put them on another creature.

For the chaos ability, the total power of the creatures a player exiled is the total power of those creatures as they last existed on the battlefield, including any bonuses from +1/+1 counters, Auras, Equipment, and other applicable effects.

You choose the number of target creatures and declare how you are distributing the counters as you put the first ability on the stack. Each target must receive at least one +1/+1 counter.

Whenever a creature dies, its controller distributes a number of +1/+1 counters equal to its power among any number of target creatures they control.
Whenever chaos ensues, each player exiles all creatures they control and creates X 1/1 green Saproling creature tokens, where X is the total power of the creatures they exiled this way. Then planeswalk.

Grixis

Blue, black, and/or red creature cards in your graveyard have unearth. The unearth cost is equal to the card's mana cost. (Pay the card's mana cost: Return it to the battlefield. The creature gains haste. Exile it at the beginning of the next end step or if it would leave the battlefield. Unearth only as a sorcery.)
Whenever you roll {Chaos}, put target creature card from a graveyard onto the battlefield under your control.

Activating a creature card's unearth ability isn't the same as casting the creature card. The unearth ability is put on the stack, but the creature card is not. Spells and abilities that interact with activated abilities (such as Stifle) will interact with unearth, but spells and abilities that interact with spells (such as Essence Scatter) will not.

At the beginning of the end step, a creature returned to the battlefield with unearth is exiled. This is a delayed triggered ability, and it can be countered by effects such as Stifle or Voidslime that counter triggered abilities. If the ability is countered, the creature will stay on the battlefield and the ability won't trigger again. However, the replacement effect will still exile the creature if it would eventually leave the battlefield.

Despite the appearance of the reminder text, the unearth abilities that Grixis grants are activated abilities of each individual blue, black, and/or red creature card in a graveyard. They're not activated abilities of Grixis.

Grixis may cause a creature card in a graveyard to have multiple unearth abilities. Its owner may activate any one of those abilities.

If a creature returned to the battlefield with unearth would leave the battlefield for any reason, it's exiled instead — unless the spell or ability that's causing the creature to leave the battlefield is actually trying to exile it! In that case, it succeeds at exiling it. If it later returns the creature card to the battlefield (as Oblivion Ring or Flickerwisp might, for example), the creature card will return to the battlefield as a new permanent with no relation to its previous existence. The unearth effect will no longer apply to it.

If you activate a creature card's unearth ability but that card is removed from your graveyard before the ability resolves, that unearth ability will resolve and do nothing.

Unearth grants haste to the creature that's returned to the battlefield. However, neither of the exile abilities is granted to that creature. If that creature loses all its abilities, it will still be exiled at the beginning of the end step, and if it would leave the battlefield, it is still exiled instead.

Unlike the unearth ability, the chaos ability returns a creature card from a graveyard to the battlefield indefinitely.

Blue, black, and/or red creature cards in your graveyard have unearth. The unearth cost is equal to the card's mana cost. (Pay the card's mana cost: Return it to the battlefield. Grove of the Dreampods

When you planeswalk to Grove of the Dreampods or at the beginning of your upkeep, reveal cards from the top of your library until you reveal a creature card. Put that card onto the battlefield and the rest on the bottom of your library in a random order.
Whenever you roll {Chaos}, return target creature card from your graveyard to the battlefield.

Both abilities are mandatory. You must put the creature card onto the battlefield, even if you don't want to.

If you don't reveal any creature cards from your library, you'll put the cards from your library on the bottom of your library in a random order. Essentially, this will shuffle your library, although you are not shuffling it for purposes of effects that care about a player shuffling a library.

When you planeswalk to Grove of the Dreampods and at the beginning of your upkeep, reveal cards from the top of your library until you reveal a creature card. Put that card onto the battlefield and the rest on the bottom of your library in a random order.
Whenever chaos ensues, return target creature card from your graveyard to the battlefield.

Hedron Fields of Agadeem

Creatures with power 7 or greater can't attack or block.
Whenever you roll {Chaos}, put a 7/7 colorless Eldrazi creature token with annihilator 1 onto the battlefield. (Whenever it attacks, defending player sacrifices a permanent.)

A creature's power is checked when attackers or blockers are declared. Increasing the power of an attacking or blocking creature to 7 or greater won't remove that creature from combat.

Creatures with power 7 or greater can't attack or block.
Whenever chaos ensues, create a 7/7 colorless Eldrazi creature token with annihilator 1. (Whenever it attacks, defending player sacrifices a permanent.)

Horizon Boughs

All permanents untap during each player's untap step.
Whenever you roll {Chaos}, you may search your library for up to three basic land cards, put them onto the battlefield tapped, then shuffle your library.

Whenever chaos ensues, you may search your library for up to three basic land cards, put them onto the battlefield tapped, then shuffle.

Immersturm

Whenever a creature enters the battlefield, that creature's controller may have it deal damage equal to its power to target creature or player of his or her choice.
Whenever you roll {Chaos}, exile target creature, then return it to the battlefield under its owner's control.

A token that has left the battlefield can't come back onto the battlefield. If the chaos ability exiles a token, that token remains in exile until state-based actions are checked, then it ceases to exist.

Any "as [this permanent] enters" choices for the card returned by the chaos ability are made by that card's owner, not its old controller or the controller of the chaos ability.

If a creature controlled by a player other than the planar controller enters, the planar controller (not the creature's controller) controls Immersturm's triggered ability. That means that if multiple creatures enter at the same time, that player controls all of Immersturm's triggered abilities and may put them on the stack in whichever order they like. The last one put on the stack is the first one to resolve.

When the chaos ability resolves, the targeted creature is exiled, then immediately returned to the battlefield as a new permanent with no relation to its previous existence.

Whenever a creature enters, that creature's controller may have it deal damage equal to its power to any target of their choice.
Whenever chaos ensues, exile target creature, then return it to the battlefield under its owner's control.

Interplanar Tunnel

When you encounter Interplanar Tunnel, reveal cards from the top of your planar deck until you reveal five plane cards. Put a plane card from among them on top of your planar deck, then put the rest of the revealed cards on the bottom in a random order. (Then planeswalk away from this phenomenon.)

The plane card you put on top of your planar deck is the one you’ll planeswalk to after planeswalking away from Interplanar Tunnel.

Isle of Vesuva

Whenever a nontoken creature enters the battlefield, its controller puts a token onto the battlefield that's a copy of that creature.
Whenever you roll {Chaos}, destroy target creature and all other creatures with the same name as that creature.

A face-down creature has no name, so it doesn't have the same name as anything else.

A token's name is the same as the creature types listed by the effect that created it, unless the token copies a permanent or that effect specifically gives that token a name. For example, the effect of The Fourth Sphere's chaos ability creates a token with the name "Zombie."

As a token is created by Isle of Vesuva's first ability, it checks the printed values of the creature it's copying, as well as any copy effects that have been applied to it. It won't copy counters on the creature, nor will it copy other effects that have changed the creature's power, toughness, types, color, and so on.

If the creature that caused Isle of Vesuva's first ability to trigger has already left the battlefield by the time the ability resolves, the ability still creates a token. It will have the copiable values of the characteristics of that nontoken creature as it last existed on the battlefield.

If the permanent targeted by the chaos ability has become an illegal target by the time the ability resolves, the ability doesn't resolve. Nothing will be destroyed.

The chaos ability will destroy all creatures with the same name as the target creature, not just tokens created by Isle of Vesuva's first ability. It doesn't matter who controls them.

If the permanent targeted by the chaos ability isn't destroyed (because it regenerates, or because it has indestructible), all other permanents with the same name as it will still be destroyed.

Whenever a nontoken creature enters, its controller creates a token that's a copy of that creature.
Whenever chaos ensues, destroy target creature and all other creatures with the same name as that creature.

Izzet Steam Maze

Whenever a player casts an instant or sorcery spell, that player copies it. The player may choose new targets for the copy.
Whenever you roll {Chaos}, instant and sorcery spells you cast this turn cost {3} less to cast.

A copy is created even if the spell that caused Izzet Steam Maze's first ability to trigger has been countered by the time that ability resolves.

Izzet Steam Maze's first ability will copy any instant or sorcery spell, not just one with targets.

As each token is created, it checks the printed values of the creature it's copying, as well as any copy effects that have been applied to it.

The copiable values of each token's characteristics are the same as the copiable values of the characteristics of the creature it's copying.

The first ability doesn't trigger when a creature attacks a planeswalker, and the token copies can't be put onto the battlefield attacking a planeswalker.
