Access Denied

Aerial Surveyor's triggered ability has an intervening "if" clause. That means (1) the ability won't trigger at all unless the defending player controls more lands than you, and (2) the ability will do nothing if you control at least as many lands as the defending player by the time it resolves.

The Consulate recruits its best pilots from the League of Aeronauts. Many go on to command entire fleets.

Aeronaut Admiral

Agitator Ant

At the beginning of your end step, each player may put two +1/+1 counters on a creature they control. Goad each creature that had counters put on it this way. (Until your next turn, those creatures attack each combat if able and attack a player other than you if able.)

As Agitator Ant's ability resolves, first you choose which creature you control, if any, to put two +1/+1 counters on, then each other player in turn order does the same, knowing the choices made before them. Then each chosen creature receives its +1/+1 counters and becomes goaded.

If a creature can't have +1/+1 counters put on it, its controller can't choose it just to have it become goaded. If it can have counters put on it but replacement effects cause it not to receive +1/+1 counters, it doesn't become goaded.

Attacking with a goaded creature doesn't cause it to stop being goaded. If there is an additional combat phase that turn, or if another player gains control of it before it stops being goaded, it must attack again if able.

Being goaded isn't an ability the creature has. Once it's been goaded, it must attack as detailed above even if it loses all abilities.

If a creature you control has been goaded by multiple opponents, it must attack one of your opponents that hasn't goaded it, as that fulfills the maximum number of goad requirements. If a creature you control has been goaded by each of your opponents, the creature must attack an opponent (rather than a planeswalker or battle), but you choose which opponent it attacks.

If the creature doesn't meet any of the above exceptions and can attack, it must attack a player other than the controller of the spell or ability that goaded it if able. If the creature can't attack any of those players but could otherwise attack, it must attack a planeswalker an opponent controls, a battle an opponent controls, or a player who goaded it.

If, during a player's declare attackers step, a creature that player controls that's been goaded is tapped, is affected by a spell or ability that says it can't attack, or hasn't been under that player's control continuously since the turn began (and doesn't have haste), then it doesn't attack. If there's a cost associated with having a creature attack a player, its controller isn't forced to pay that cost, so it doesn't have to attack that player.

Akki Battle Squad

Whenever one or more modified creatures you control attack, untap all modified creatures you control. After this combat phase, there is an additional combat phase. This ability triggers only once each turn. (Equipment, Auras you control, and counters are modifications.)

A creature that is equipped is considered modified no matter who controls the Equipment that's attached to it.

A creature with a counter on it is considered modified no matter what kind of counter it is or which player put it on that creature.

An Aura controlled by an opponent does not cause a creature you control to be modified.

Notably, the triggered ability of Akki Battle Squad doesn't give you any additional main phases. This means that you will move directly from the end of combat step of one combat phase to the beginning of combat step of the next one.

Only creatures can be modified. If a modified creature stops being a creature, it is no longer considered modified.

Whenever one or more modified creatures you control attack, untap all modified creatures you control. After this phase, there is an additional combat phase. This ability triggers only once each turn. (Equipment, Auras you control, and counters are modifications.)

Armed and Armored

Vehicles you control become artifact creatures until end of turn. Choose a Dwarf you control. Attach any number of Equipment you control to it.

The set of Vehicles affected by Armed and Armored is determined as the spell resolves. Vehicles you begin to control later in the turn won't automatically become creatures.

You can cast Armed and Armored even if you don't control any Vehicles or Dwarves. Whatever part of the effect that can happen does, and the rest is ignored.

Ascendant Acolyte

Ascendant Acolyte enters the battlefield with a +1/+1 counter on it for each +1/+1 counter among other creatures you control.
At the beginning of your upkeep, double the number of +1/+1 counters on Ascendant Acolyte.

If Ascendant Acolyte is entering the battlefield at the same time as other creatures, it doesn't count any counters those other creatures would enter the battlefield with.

Ascendant Acolyte enters with a +1/+1 counter on it for each +1/+1 counter among other creatures you control.

Bear Umbra

Enchant creature
Enchanted creature gets +2/+2 and has "Whenever this creature attacks, untap all lands you control."
Totem armor (If enchanted creature would be destroyed, instead remove all damage from it and destroy this Aura.)

When the enchanted creature attacks, all lands controlled by that creature's controller (who is not necessarily the Aura's controller) untap.

If a creature enchanted with an Aura that has umbra armor has indestructible, lethal damage and effects that try to destroy it simply have no effect. Umbra armor won't do anything because it won't have to.

If a creature enchanted with an Aura that has umbra armor would be destroyed by multiple state-based actions at the same time (most likely because a creature with deathtouch has dealt damage to that creature greater than or equal to its toughness), umbra armor's effect will replace all of them and save the creature.

If a creature you control is enchanted with multiple Auras that have umbra armor, and the enchanted creature would be destroyed, one of those Auras is destroyed instead—but only one of them. You choose which one because you control the enchanted creature.

If a spell or ability says that it would "destroy" a creature enchanted with an Aura that has umbra armor, that spell or ability is what causes the Aura to be destroyed instead. Umbra armor doesn't destroy the Aura; rather, it changes the effects of the spell or ability. On the other hand, if a spell or ability deals lethal damage to a creature enchanted with an Aura that has umbra armor, the game rules regarding lethal damage cause the Aura to be destroyed, not that spell or ability.

If a spell or ability would destroy both an Aura with umbra armor and the creature it's enchanting at the same time, umbra armor's effect will save the enchanted creature from being destroyed. Instead, the spell or ability will destroy the Aura in two different ways at the same time, but the result is the same as destroying it once.

Some printings of this card refer to the ability "totem armor". This ability's name has been replaced with "umbra armor". This change does not affect the gameplay function of this card.

Umbra armor has no effect if the enchanted creature is put into a graveyard for any other reason, such as if it's sacrificed, if the "legend rule" applies to it, or if its toughness is 0 or less.

Umbra armor's effect is applied no matter why the enchanted creature would be destroyed: because it's been dealt lethal damage, or because it's being affected by an effect that says to "destroy" it (such as Breathe Your Last). In either case, all damage is removed from the creature and the Aura is destroyed instead.

Umbra armor's effect is mandatory. If the enchanted creature would be destroyed, you must remove all damage from it (if it has any) and destroy the Aura that has umbra armor instead.

Umbra armor's effect is not regeneration. Specifically, if umbra armor's effect is applied, the enchanted creature does not become tapped and is not removed from combat as a result. Effects that say the enchanted creature can't be regenerated won't prevent umbra armor's effect from being applied.

Enchant creature

Beast Within

Destroy target permanent. Its controller creates a 3/3 green Beast creature token.

If the permanent is still a legal target but is not destroyed (perhaps because it regenerated or has indestructible), its controller still gets the Beast token.

If the target permanent is an illegal target by the time Beast Within tries to resolve, the spell won't resolve. No player creates a Beast token. If the target is legal but not destroyed (most likely because it has indestructible), its controller does create a Beast token.

It spilled the blood of one elder dragon. In Gideon's hands, it may yet taste another's.

Blackblade Reforged

Equipped creature gets +1/+1 for each land you control.

Equip {7}

"Equip [quality] creature" is a variant of the equip keyword. "Equip [quality] creature [cost]" means "[Cost]: Attach this Equipment to target [quality] creature you control. Activate only as a sorcery."

Whether the target creature is legendary is checked only as Blackblade Reforged's first equip ability is activated and as that ability resolves. If the creature somehow becomes nonlegendary later, Blackblade Reforged remains attached to it.

Bonehoard

Living weapon (When this Equipment enters the battlefield, create a 0/0 black Phyrexian Germ creature token, then attach this to it.)
Equipped creature gets +X/+X, where X is the number of creature cards in all graveyards.
Equip {2}

Although creature tokens go to the graveyard before ceasing to exist, they never count as creature cards and won't increase the bonus granted by Bonehoard, however briefly.

If lethal damage is dealt simultaneously to the equipped creature and another creature, both creatures are put into the graveyard at the same time. The equipped creature won't get an additional bonus from the other creature.

If there are no creature cards in any graveyard when Bonehoard's living weapon ability resolves, the Germ will be 0/0 and put into its owner's graveyard.

The value of X is calculated continuously as the number of creature cards in graveyards changes.

If the Germ token is destroyed, the Equipment remains on the battlefield as with any other Equipment.

If the living weapon trigger causes two Germs to be created (due to an effect such as that of Doubling Season), the Equipment becomes attached to one of them. The other will be put into your graveyard and subsequently cease to exist, unless another effect raises its toughness above 0.

Like other Equipment, each Equipment with living weapon has an equip cost. You can pay this cost to attach an Equipment to another creature you control. Once the Germ token is no longer equipped, it will be put into your graveyard and subsequently cease to exist, unless another effect raises its toughness above 0.

The Germ token enters the battlefield as a 0/0 creature and the Equipment becomes attached to it before state-based actions would cause the token to die. Abilities that trigger as the token enters the battlefield see that a 0/0 creature entered the battlefield.

Cataclysmic Gearhulk

Vigilance
When Cataclysmic Gearhulk enters the battlefield, each player chooses an artifact, a creature, an enchantment, and a planeswalker from among the nonland permanents they control, then sacrifices the rest.

A permanent with more than one type may be chosen as either of the types or both. For example, an artifact creature may be chosen as the artifact, the creature, or both. Choosing the same permanent twice this way has the same result as choosing it once.

Cataclysmic Gearhulk will be sacrificed to its own ability if you don't choose it as your artifact or your creature.

First the player whose turn it is chooses permanents they control, then each other player in turn order does the same. Each player will know the choices made by players who chose before them. All of the unchosen nonland permanents are then sacrificed simultaneously.

If you don't control any permanents of one of the types, you'll still choose the permanents of the types you do control.

Lands can't be chosen and won't be sacrificed, even if they have other types (such as an artifact land).

Vigilance
When Cataclysmic Gearhulk enters, each player chooses an artifact, a creature, an enchantment, and a planeswalker from among the nonland permanents they control, then sacrifices the rest.

Chain Reaction

Chain Reaction deals X damage to each creature, where X is the number of creatures on the battlefield.

The value of X is determined as Chain Reaction resolves.

Champion of Lambholt

Creatures with power less than Champion of Lambholt's power can't block creatures you control.
Whenever another creature enters the battlefield under your control, put a +1/+1 counter on Champion of Lambholt.

Champion of Lambholt's first ability applies even if it isn't attacking.

The comparison of power is done only when blockers are declared. Decreasing the power of a blocking creature (or increasing the power of Champion of Lambholt) after this point won't cause any creature to stop blocking or become unblocked.

Creatures with power less than Champion of Lambholt's power can't block creatures you control.
Whenever another creature you control enters, put a +1/+1 counter on Champion of Lambholt.

Chaos Warp

The owner of target permanent shuffles it into their library, then reveals the top card of their library. If it's a permanent card, they put it onto the battlefield.

A permanent card is a card with one or more of the following card types: artifact, creature, enchantment, land, or planeswalker.

If the permanent is an illegal target by the time Chaos Warp tries to resolve, it won't resolve and none of its effects will occur. No library will be shuffled and no card will be revealed.

If the revealed card is a permanent card but can't enter (perhaps because it's an Aura with nothing to enchant), it remains on top of that library.

If the revealed card is not a permanent card, it remains on top of that library.

The owner of a token is the player under whose control the token was put onto the battlefield. If a token is shuffled into a player's library this way, that player shuffles before revealing the top card of that library.

Chishiro, the Shattered Blade

Whenever an Aura or Equipment enters the battlefield under your control, create a 2/2 red Spirit creature token with menace.

Cinder Glade enters the battlefield tapped unless you control two or more basic lands.

Even though these lands have basic land types, they are not basic lands because "basic" doesn't appear on their type line. Notably, controlling two or more of them won't allow others to enter the battlefield untapped.

However, because these cards have basic land types, effects that specify a basic land type without also specifying that the land be basic can affect them. For example, a spell or ability that reads "Destroy target Forest" can target Canopy Vista, while one that reads "Destroy target basic Forest" cannot.

If one of these lands enters the battlefield at the same time as any number of basic lands, those other lands are not counted when determining if this land enters the battlefield tapped or untapped.

Collision of Realms

Each player shuffles all creatures they own into their library. Each player who shuffled a nontoken creature into their library this way reveals cards from the top of their library until they reveal a creature card, then puts that card onto the battlefield and the rest on the bottom of their library in a random order.

All creatures are shuffled into their owners' libraries at the same time. Then all players who shuffled nontoken creatures into their library this way reveal cards. Then all creature cards revealed this way enter the battlefield at the same time. Then all other cards are put on the bottom of their owners' libraries. Any abilities that triggered during this process are then put on the stack, starting by those controlled by the active player in an order of that player's choice, then continuing with each other player's abilities in turn order. The last player to put their abilities on the stack will be the first player to have their abilities resolve. A player who controls no creatures or who controls only creature tokens will still shuffle their library.

Each player reveals and puts onto the battlefield one creature card or fewer. They don't reveal a card for each nontoken creature they shuffle into their library; it's just one creature card at most.

Colossal Plow

Whenever Colossal Plow attacks, add {W}{W}{W} and you gain 3 life. Until end of turn, you don't lose this mana as steps and phases end.
Crew 6 (Tap any number of creatures you control with total power 6 or more: This Vehicle becomes an artifact creature until end of turn.)

When defeat is near and guidance is scarce, all eyes look in one direction.

Command Tower

If you don't have a commander, Command Tower's ability produces no mana.

If your commander is a card that has no colors in its color identity, Command Tower's ability produces no mana. It doesn't produce {C}.

Concord with the Kami

At the beginning of your end step, choose one or more —
• Put a +1/+1 counter on target creature with a counter on it.
• Draw a card if you control an enchanted creature.
• Create a 1/1 colorless Spirit creature token if you control an equipped creature.

If you choose the first mode, and the target creature becomes an illegal target by the time the ability tries to resolve, the ability won't resolve and none of its effects will happen, even if you chose other modes.

You cannot choose the first mode unless you have a legal target for it. You may choose the second and third mode even if you don't have an enchanted or equipped creature at the time this ability triggers.

The Izzet mage knew she would neither get her thermoinverter back nor have the satisfaction of exploding it herself.

Crush Contraband

Choose one or both —
• Exile target artifact.
• Exile target enchantment.

If you've chosen both modes and one of Crush Contraband's targets becomes an illegal target, the other is still exiled.

Cultivator's Caravan

{T}: Add one mana of any color.
Crew 3 (Tap any number of creatures you control with total power 3 or more: This Vehicle becomes an artifact creature until end of turn.)

As long as Cultivator's Caravan isn't an artifact creature, its {T} ability can be activated if it came under your control this turn.

Any untapped creature you control can be tapped to pay a crew cost, even one that just came under your control.

Creatures that crew a Vehicle aren't attached to it or related in any other way. Effects that affect the Vehicle, such as by destroying it or giving it a +1/+1 counter, don't affect the creatures that crewed it.

Each Vehicle is printed with a power and toughness, but it's not a creature. If it becomes a creature (most likely through its crew ability), it will have that power and toughness.

For a Vehicle to be able to attack, it must be a creature as the declare attackers step begins, so the latest you can activate its crew ability to attack with it is during the beginning of combat step. For a Vehicle to be able to block, it must be a creature as the declare blockers step begins, so the latest you can activate its crew ability to block with it is during the declare attackers step. In either case, players may take actions after the crew ability resolves but before the Vehicle has been declared as an attacking or blocking creature.

If a permanent becomes a copy of a Vehicle, the copy won't be a creature, even if the Vehicle it's copying has become an artifact creature.

If an effect causes a Vehicle to become an artifact creature with a specified power and toughness, that effect overwrites the Vehicle's printed power and toughness.

Once a Vehicle becomes a creature, it behaves exactly like any other artifact creature. It can't attack unless you've controlled it continuously since your turn began, it can block if it's untapped, it can be tapped to pay a Vehicle's crew cost, and so on.

Once a player announces that they are activating a crew ability, no player may take other actions until the ability has been paid for. Notably, players can't try to stop the ability by changing a creature's power or by removing or tapping a creature.

Vehicle is an artifact type, not a creature type. A Vehicle that's crewed won't normally have any creature type.

When a Vehicle becomes a creature, that doesn't count as having a creature enter the battlefield. The permanent was already on the battlefield; it only changed its types. Abilities that trigger whenever a creature enters the battlefield won't trigger.

You may activate a crew ability of a Vehicle even if it's already an artifact creature. Doing so has no effect on the Vehicle. It doesn't change its power and toughness.

You may tap more creatures than necessary to activate a crew ability.

Cyberdrive Awakener

Flying
Other artifact creatures you control have flying.
When Cyberdrive Awakener enters the battlefield, until end of turn, each noncreature artifact you control becomes an artifact creature with base power and toughness 4/4.

Other artifact creatures you control have flying.
When Cyberdrive Awakener enters, until end of turn, each noncreature artifact you control becomes an artifact creature with base power and toughness 4/4.

Dance of the Manse

Return up to X target artifact and/or non-Aura enchantment cards each with mana value X or less from your graveyard to the battlefield. If X is 6 or more, those permanents are 4/4 creatures in addition to their other types.

An Equipment that's also a creature can't be attached to anything. You can activate its equip ability, but it won't become attached.

An artifact creature or enchantment creature returned this way will be a 4/4 creature.

If X is 6 or more, the artifacts and/or enchantments enter the battlefield as 4/4 creatures. They don't enter as noncreature permanents and then become creatures.

If a card in a player's graveyard has {X} in its mana cost, that X is considered to be 0.

If another effect causes one of the returned permanents to become a creature and sets its power and toughness as it does so, that creature will have that power and toughness; it won't be 4/4. Notably, crewing a Vehicle does not set its power and toughness, so a Vehicle will remain a 4/4 creature if you crew it.

Decimate

Destroy target artifact, target creature, target enchantment, and target land.

You must choose a legal target for each target required by Decimate. However, if a permanent has multiple card types, it may be chosen as the target for more than one instance of the word "target." For example, you could cast Decimate targeting an artifact creature, an enchantment, and a land.

Destroy target artifact, target creature, target enchantment, and target land. (You can't cast this spell unless you have legal choices for all its targets.)

Venser wondered if it could still be called a teleportation spell if the destination is oblivion.

Dispatch

Tap target creature.
Metalcraft — If you control three or more artifacts, exile that creature.

If you control three or more artifacts when Dispatch resolves, you'll tap the creature, then exile it.

By the second night after the kami had drifted into town, the local general store was completely sold out of earplugs.

Drumbellower

Flying
Untap all creatures you control during each other player's untap step.

All your creatures untap during each other player's untap step. You have no choice about what untaps.

Other effects can prevent a creature from untapping during an untap step. You do need to look carefully, however, as many effects say that the creature doesn't untap during its controller's untap step, and this card's ability applies during other players' untap steps. If a card does say this, then Drumbellower can untap it.

Elemental Mastery

Enchant creature
Enchanted creature has "{T}: Create X 1/1 red Elemental creature tokens with haste, where X is this creature's power. Exile them at the beginning of the next end step."

If the ability is activated after the current turn's End step has begun, the tokens won't be exiled until the next turn's End step.

The enchanted creature's power is checked at the time the ability resolves. If the enchanted creature has left the battlefield by then, its last known information is used.

The tokens will be exiled in the End step even if Elemental Mastery or the enchanted creature has left the battlefield by then.

Emry, Lurker of the Loch

This spell costs {1} less to cast for each artifact you control.
When Emry, Lurker of the Loch enters the battlefield, mill four cards.
{T}: Choose target artifact card in your graveyard. You may cast that card this turn. (You still pay its costs. Timing rules still apply.)

Casting the target card causes it to leave your graveyard and become a new object. You can't cast it again if it returns to your graveyard this turn.

If Emry's last ability targets an artifact land card, you can't play it. Effects that allow you to “cast” a card don't allow you to play a land card.

Once you announce that you're casting a spell, no player may take actions until the spell has been paid for. Notably, opponents can't try to change by how much Emry's cost is reduced.

The cost reduction ability reduces only the generic mana in Emry's cost. The colored mana must still be paid.

To determine the total cost of a spell, start with the mana cost or alternative cost you're paying, add any cost increases, then apply any cost reductions (such as that of Emry). The mana value of the spell remains unchanged, no matter what the total cost to cast it was.

You must follow the normal timing permissions and restrictions for the target artifact card. Unless it has flash, you'll most likely only be able to cast it during your main phase while the stack is empty.

You'll still pay all costs for a spell cast this way, including additional costs. You may also pay alternative costs if any are available.

This spell costs {1} less to cast for each artifact you control.
When Emry, Lurker of the Loch enters, mill four cards.

Etherium Sculptor

Artifact spells you cast cost {1} less to cast.

The only difference between a colored artifact and a colorless artifact is, obviously, its color. Unlike most artifacts, a colored artifact requires colored mana to cast. Also unlike most artifacts, a colored artifact has a color in all zones. It will interact with cards that care about color. Other than that, a colored artifact behaves just like any other artifact. It will interact as normal with any card that cares about artifacts, such as Shatter or Arcbound Ravager.

This effect can reduce only the generic portion of the artifact spell's total cost.
