Aggravated Assault

{3}{R}{R}: Untap all creatures you control. After this main phase, there is an additional combat phase followed by an additional main phase. Activate this ability only any time you could cast a sorcery.

If you have enough mana, the ability may be activated more than once in a turn.

You will normally activate this ability during your postcombat main phase so you can untap any creatures that attacked.

Each of the chosen modes happens sequentially. If a permanent has an ability that triggers whenever it or another permanent is destroyed, it will see permanents destroyed at the same time as it or before it, but not permanents destroyed by later modes.

If a card is exiled "until" another permanent leaves the battlefield, the exiled card returns to the battlefield immediately after that permanent leaves the battlefield during Austere Command's resolution, and it may be destroyed by a later mode.

If the first and last modes are chosen, an artifact creature with mana value 4 or greater will have to be regenerated twice to survive. This is because the modes happen sequentially, and the regeneration "shield" is used up by the first one. The same is true with any other combination of modes that covers one permanent twice.

Aven Mindcensor

If an opponent would search a library, that player searches the top four cards of that library instead.

After the search is complete, the entire library is shuffled.

Each search works exactly the same as normal except that the opponent doing the searching sees only the top four cards of that library. They can't look at the other cards in that library at all. Cards not in the top four cards of the library can't be found in the search, even if they're identifiable in some manner.

For effects that check whether a player searched a library or may search a library, searching the top four cards of that library counts as searching that library.

If an effect uses the word "search" once but allows an opponent to search for multiple cards, the top four cards remain the same throughout the entire search. Finding one card won't cause the fifth card to become included in the search.

Blood Moon

If a nonbasic land has an ability that causes it to enter the battlefield tapped, it will lose that ability before it can apply. The same is also true of any other abilities that modify how a land enters the battlefield or apply "as" a land enters the battlefield, such as the first ability of Cavern of Souls.

If a nonbasic land has an ability that triggers "when" it enters the battlefield, it will lose that ability before it can trigger.

Nonbasic lands will lose any other land types and abilities they had. They will gain the land type Mountain and gain the ability "{T}: Add {R}."

This effect doesn't affect names or supertypes. It won't turn any land into a basic land or remove the legendary supertype from a legendary land, and the lands won't be named "Mountain."

Boil

Bontu the Glorified

Bontu the Glorified can't attack or block unless a creature died under your control this turn.
{1}{B}, Sacrifice another creature: Scry 1. Each opponent loses 1 life and you gain 1 life.

All attackers are chosen at once. You can’t attack with one, sacrifice it to satisfy Bontu’s combat restriction, and then attack with Bontu.

Creature tokens that die are put into your graveyard as normal (and cease to exist soon after). If one died this turn, it satisfies Bontu’s combat restriction.

In a Two-Headed Giant game, Bontu’s activated ability causes the opposing team to lose 2 life and you gain 1 life.

The creature that died doesn’t have to still be in its owner’s graveyard to satisfy Bontu’s combat restriction.

Capsize

Chain Lightning

Chain Lightning deals 3 damage to target creature or player. Then that player or that creature's controller may pay {R}{R}. If the player does, he or she may copy this spell and may choose a new target for that copy.

As Chain Lightning resolves, either the original or one of the copies, the targeted player or the controller of the targeted permanent may copy it. The copy has the same text, target, and color as the resolving spell, though the player creating the copy may choose a new target for it. Once that copy is created (or not), the Chain Lightning finishes resolving and leaves the stack.

If the targeted player or permanent is an illegal target as Chain Lightning tries to resolve, the spell doesn’t resolve and none of its effects happen. It can’t be copied.

The copy of Chain Lightning is created on the stack, so it’s not cast. Abilities that trigger when a player casts a spell won’t trigger. Players may respond to that spell before it resolves.

The player putting the copy of the spell on the stack controls that copy.

Chain Lightning deals 3 damage to any target. Then that player or that permanent's controller may pay {R}{R}. If the player does, they may copy this spell and may choose a new target for that copy.

Choke

Islands don't untap during their controllers' untap steps.

Consecrated Sphinx

Whenever an opponent draws a card, you may draw two cards.

If each player controls a Consecrated Sphinx, their abilities will cause each other to trigger until one player chooses not to draw cards.

The ability triggers once for each card an opponent draws. You choose whether to draw two cards as each of those abilities resolves.

You may either draw two cards or not draw at all. You can’t choose to draw only one card.

Containment Priest

Flash
If a nontoken creature would enter the battlefield and it wasn't cast, exile it instead.

Containment Priest's last ability won't affect any creatures that were cast, including ones cast from unusual zones such as your graveyard.

If Containment Priest enters the battlefield at the same time as other creatures, its ability won't affect those creatures.

If Containment Priest enters the battlefield without being cast, its ability won't exile itself.

If a noncreature card wasn't cast and is entering the battlefield as a creature (due to an effect such as that of March of the Machines), it will be exiled. Conversely, if a creature card wasn't cast and is entering the battlefield as a noncreature permanent (for example, Heliod, Sun-Crowned with insufficient devotion), it won't be exiled.

Flash
If a nontoken creature would enter and it wasn't cast, exile it instead.

Counterbalance

Whenever an opponent casts a spell, you may reveal the top card of your library. If you do, counter that spell if it has the same converted mana cost as the revealed card.

If an opponent casts a spell with X in its mana cost, the mana value of that spell takes the value of X into account. If you reveal a card with X in its mana cost, X is 0. For example, if your opponent casts Blaze with X=1, Counterbalance will counter that spell if you reveal a card with mana value 2, but it won't counter that spell if you reveal a Blaze of your own.

If an opponent casts half of a split card (for example, Hit), it won't be countered if you reveal that same split card. The mana value of a split card is determined by the combined mana cost of its two halves, but the mana value of Hit is determined using only that half's mana cost.

Whenever an opponent casts a spell, you may reveal the top card of your library. If you do, counter that spell if it has the same mana value as the revealed card.

Counterspell

Cryptic Command

• Draw a card.

Look at both chosen modes to determine how many targets Cryptic Command has, if any. If it has at least one target, and all its targets are illegal when it tries to resolve, then it won’t resolve and none of its effects will happen. For example, if you choose the second and fourth modes, and the permanent is an illegal target when Cryptic Command tries to resolve, you won’t draw a card.

You choose both modes as you cast Cryptic Command. You must choose two different modes.

Once Hazoret has attacked or blocked, it will remain in combat even if the number of cards in your hand becomes two or greater.

Kefnet the Mindful

Kefnet the Mindful can't attack or block unless you have seven or more cards in hand.
{3}{U}: Draw a card, then you may return a land you control to its owner's hand.

Once Kefnet has attacked or blocked, it will remain in combat even if the number of cards in your hand becomes six or fewer.

While resolving Kefnet's activated ability, you don't choose which land to return to its owner's hand (or whether you'll return one at all) until you see the card you draw.

Lord of Extinction

Lord of Extinction's power and toughness are each equal to the number of cards in all graveyards.

If an instant or sorcery spell deals damage to Lord of Extinction or lowers its toughness, that spell is put into its owner’s graveyard before state-based actions are performed. That card will raise Lord of Extinction’s toughness before the game checks to see if it dies.

The ability that defines Lord of Extinction’s power and toughness works in all zones, not just the battlefield. If Lord of Extinction is in your graveyard, it will count itself.

Loyal Retainers

Sacrifice Loyal Retainers: Return target legendary creature card from your graveyard to the battlefield. Activate this ability only during your turn, before attackers are declared.

If a turn has multiple combat phases, the ability can only be activated before the beginning of the declare attackers step of the first combat phase in that turn.

Maelstrom Pulse

Destroy target nonland permanent and all other permanents with the same name as that permanent.

If the target permanent is an illegal target by the time Maelstrom Pulse tries to resolve, the spell won't resolve. You won't destroy any permanents at all. If the target is legal but not destroyed (most likely because it has indestructible), you do destroy other permanents with the same name.

Maelstrom Pulse has only one target. Other permanents with the same name will be destroyed even if they have hexproof or protection.

Unless a token is a copy of another permanent or was explicitly given a name by the effect that created it, its name is the subtypes it was given when it was created plus the word "Token." For example, if an effect creates a 1/1 Soldier creature token, that token is named "Soldier Token."

Mind Twist

Target player discards X cards at random.

No Mercy

Whenever a creature deals damage to you, destroy it.

No Mercy’s ability triggers whenever any creature, including creatures you control, deals damage to you, not only combat damage.

Oketra the True

Double strike, indestructible
Oketra the True can't attack or block unless you control at least three other creatures.
{3}{W}: Create a 1/1 white Warrior creature token with vigilance.

Once Oketra has attacked or blocked, it will remain in combat even if the number of other creatures you control becomes two or fewer.

You don’t have to attack with three other creatures for Oketra to be able to attack. The same is true of blocking.

Omniscience

You may cast spells from your hand without paying their mana costs.

If a spell has {X} in its mana cost, you must choose 0 as the value of X when casting it without paying its mana cost.

If you cast a spell "without paying its mana cost," you can't choose to cast it for any alternative costs. You can, however, pay additional costs, such as kicker costs. If the card has any mandatory additional costs, such as that of Tormenting Voice, those must be paid to cast the spell.

Once you cast Omniscience, if it's your turn, you'll have priority immediately after it resolves. You can cast another spell before any player can attempt to remove Omniscience with spells or abilities.

You must follow the normal timing permissions and restrictions of each spell you cast.

Opposition

Tap an untapped creature you control: Tap target artifact, creature, or land.

Once a player announces that they’re casting a spell or activating an ability, no player may take other actions until the spell or ability has been paid for. Notably, other players can’t try to tap that player’s permanents to stop them from paying {T} or to stop them from producing enough mana.

You can tap any untapped creature you control to activate Opposition’s ability, even one you haven’t controlled continuously since the beginning of your most recent turn.

Pact of Negation

Counter target spell.
At the beginning of your next upkeep, pay {3}{U}{U}. If you don't, you lose the game.

Although originally printed with a characteristic-defining ability that defined its color, this card now has a color indicator. This color indicator can't be affected by text-changing effects (such as the one created by Crystal Spray), although color-changing effects can still overwrite it.

If Pact of Negation is countered or otherwise doesn't resolve (perhaps because its target became illegal), the delayed triggered ability that threatens you with a game loss won't trigger at the beginning of your next upkeep.

If Pact of Negation resolves with a legal target but fails to counter that spell (most likely because that spell can't be countered), the delayed triggered ability will still trigger at the beginning of your next upkeep and you will have to pay. Or else.

Rhonas the Indomitable

Deathtouch, indestructible
Rhonas the Indomitable can't attack or block unless you control another creature with power 4 or greater.
{2}{G}: Another target creature gets +2/+0 and gains trample until end of turn.

Once Rhonas has attacked or blocked, it will remain in combat even if you no longer control another creature with power 4 or greater.

You don’t have to attack with another creature with power 4 or greater for Rhonas to be able to attack. The same is true of blocking.

Shatterstorm

Destroy all artifacts. They can't be regenerated.

Slaughter Pact

Destroy target nonblack creature.
At the beginning of your next upkeep, pay {2}{B}. If you don't, you lose the game.

If Slaughter Pact is countered or otherwise doesn't resolve (perhaps because its target became illegal), the delayed triggered ability that threatens you with a game loss won't trigger at the beginning of your next upkeep.

If Slaughter Pact resolves with a legal target but the target is not destroyed (perhaps because it has indestructible or regenerated), the delayed triggered ability will still trigger at the beginning of your next upkeep and you will have to pay the cost or lose the game.

Spell Pierce

Counter target noncreature spell unless its controller pays {2}.

Stifle

Counter target activated or triggered ability.

An activated ability has a “Cost: Effect” format. Look for the colon. A triggered ability starts with “when”, “whenever”, or “at”.

It can target delayed triggered abilities. For example, a card that says “Whenever a player cycles a card, you may exile target creature. If you do, return that creature to the battlefield at the beginning of the end step.” triggers when a player cycles a card and creates a delayed trigger that happens at the beginning of the end step. You can choose to target the “at the beginning of the end step” trigger when it is placed on the stack at end of turn.

Turn-based actions and special actions like the normal card draw, combat damage, or turning a face-down creature face up can’t be targeted.

Sunder

The Locust God

If a spell or ability causes you to put cards into your hand without specifically using the word “draw,” The Locust God's first triggered ability won't trigger.

If this creature dies but leaves your graveyard before the next end step, it will remain in its new zone.

The “next end step” refers to the next end step that occurs, not the end step of the next turn. If this creature dies before a turn's end step (for example, during combat), it will be returned to its owner's hand at the beginning of that turn's end step.

The Scarab God

At the beginning of your upkeep, each opponent loses X life and you scry X, where X is the number of Zombies you control.
{2}{U}{B}: Exile target creature card from a graveyard. Create a token that's a copy of it, except it's a 4/4 black Zombie.
When The Scarab God dies, return it to its owner's hand at the beginning of the next end step.

In a Two-Headed Giant game, The Scarab God's first ability causes the opposing team to lose life equal to twice the number of Zombies you control, although you scry only equal to the number of Zombies you control.

The number of Zombies you control is counted as The Scarab God's first ability resolves. Players can try to change that number in response to the ability (perhaps by activating its second ability).

The Scorpion God

Whenever a creature with a -1/-1 counter on it dies, draw a card.
{1}{B}{R}: Put a -1/-1 counter on another target creature.
When The Scorpion God dies, return it to its owner's hand at the beginning of the next end step.

If a creature with a -1/-1 counter on it dies at the same time as The Scorpion God does, you’ll draw a card. The same is true if The Scorpion God dies with a -1/-1 counter on it.

The “next end step” refers to the next end step that occurs, not the end step of the next turn. If this creature dies before a turn’s end step (for example, during combat), it will be returned to its owner’s hand at the beginning of that turn’s end step.

You’ll draw only one card when a creature with more than one -1/-1 counter on it dies.

Thoughtseize

Target player reveals his or her hand. You choose a nonland card from it. That player discards that card. You lose 2 life.

You lose 2 life even if the target player has no nonland cards in their hand to discard.

Target player reveals their hand. You choose a nonland card from it. That player discards that card. You lose 2 life.

Threads of Disloyalty

Enchant creature with converted mana cost 2 or less
You control enchanted creature.

Creatures on the battlefield treat {X} in their mana cost as 0 for the purposes of calculating mana values.

Threads of Disloyalty can't target a creature with mana value 3 or greater. If it somehow enchants a creature with mana value 3 or greater, Threads of Disloyalty is put into the graveyard the next time state-based actions are checked.

Through the Breach

You may put a creature card from your hand onto the battlefield. That creature gains haste. Sacrifice that creature at the beginning of the next end step.
Splice onto Arcane {2}{R}{R}

Putting the card onto the battlefield is optional. When the ability resolves, you can choose not to.

A card with a splice ability can’t be spliced onto itself because the spell is on the stack (and not in your hand) when you reveal the cards you want to splice onto it.

If all of the spell’s targets are illegal when the spell tries to resolve, it won’t resolve and none of its effects will happen.

You choose all targets for the spell after revealing cards you want to splice, including any targets required by the text of any of those cards. You may choose a different target for each instance of the word “target” on the resulting spell.

You reveal all cards you intend to splice at the same time. Each individual card can be spliced only once onto any one spell.
