A-Galvanic Discharge

Choose target creature or planeswalker. You get {E}{E}, then you may pay any amount of {E}. Galvanic Discharge deals that much damage to that permanent.

A-Guide of Souls

Whenever another creature you control enters, you gain 1 life and get {E} (an energy counter).
Whenever you attack, you may pay {E}{E}{E}{E}. When you do, put two +1/+1 counters and a flying counter on target attacking creature. It becomes an Angel in addition to its other types.

A-Ocelot Pride

Abstruse Appropriation

Devoid (This card has no color.)
Exile target nonland permanent. You may cast that card for as long as it remains exiled, and you may spend colorless mana as though it were mana of any color to cast that spell.

A card with devoid is just colorless. It's not colorless and the colors of mana in its mana cost.

Abstruse Appropriation doesn't change when you can cast the exiled card. For example, if you exile a creature card without flash, you can cast it only during your main phase when the stack is empty.

Devoid doesn't affect the color identity of the card for the purposes of the Commander variant. For example, while Abstruse Appropriation is colorless because it has devoid, its color identity is still white and black, and it can't be included in a Commander deck where the commander's color identity doesn't include both white and black.

Devoid works in all zones, not just on the battlefield.

If a card loses devoid, it will still be colorless. This is because effects that change an object's color (like the one created by devoid) are considered before the object loses devoid.

If a token is exiled this way, it will cease to exist and won't return to the battlefield. You can't cast it.

In a multiplayer game, if a player leaves the game, all cards that player owns leave as well. If you leave the game, any spells or permanents you control from Abstruse Appropriation's effect are exiled, and any cards still exiled by it remain exiled.

In the rare case where the exiled card is a land card (probably because that land became a copy of a permanent while it was still on the battlefield), you won't be able to play it from exile.

Other cards and abilities can give a card with devoid a color. If that happens, it's just the new color, not that color and colorless.

Devoid
Exile target nonland permanent. You may cast that card for as long as it remains exiled, and you may spend colorless mana as though it were mana of any color to cast that spell.

The Accursed are ever drawn to the Hekma, as though its presence provides a brief respite in their lives of eternal torment.

Accursed Marauder

When Accursed Marauder enters the battlefield, each player sacrifices a nontoken creature.

As Accursed Marauder's enters-the-battlefield ability resolves, first the player whose turn it is chooses which creature they'll sacrifice, then each other player in turn order does the same. Players will know the choices of previous players when making their choice. Then all of the chosen creatures are sacrificed by their controllers simultaneously.

You may sacrifice Accursed Marauder to its own ability. If it is the only creature you control when that ability resolves, you must sacrifice it.

When Accursed Marauder enters, each player sacrifices a nontoken creature.

It fears no sword and leaves no bones behind.

Acidic Slime

When Acidic Slime enters the battlefield, destroy target artifact, enchantment, or land.

Aether Hub

When Aether Hub enters the battlefield, you get {E} (an energy counter).

{T}, Pay {E}: Add one mana of any color.

Energy counters are a kind of counter that a player may have. They're not associated with any specific permanents.

Energy counters aren't mana. They don't go away as steps, phases, and turns end, and effects that add mana "of any type" can't give you energy counters.

If a spell or ability with one or more targets states that you "may pay" some amount of {E}, and each permanent that it targets has become an illegal target, the spell or ability won't resolve. You can't pay any {E} even if you want to.

If an effect says you get one or more {E}, you get that many energy counters. To pay one or more {E}, you lose that many energy counters. You can't pay more energy counters than you have. Any effects that interact with counters a player gets, has, or loses can interact with energy counters.

Keep track of how many energy counters each player has. Potential ways to track this include writing theme down on paper or using dice, but any method that is clear and mutually agreeable is fine. (At higher levels of tournament play, dice may not be allowed for tracking counters that players have.)

Some spells and abilities that give you {E} may require targets. If each target chosen is an illegal target as that spell or ability tries to resolve, it won't resolve. You won't get any {E}.

Some triggered abilities state that you "may pay" a certain amount of {E}. You can't pay that amount multiple times to multiply the effect. You simply choose whether or not to pay that amount of {E} as the ability resolves.

Some triggered abilities that state that you "may pay" a certain amount of {E} describe an effect that happens "If you do." In that case, no player may take actions to try to stop the ability's effect after you make your choice. If the payment is followed by the phrase "When you do," then you'll choose any targets for that reflexive triggered ability and put it on the stack before players can take actions.

{E} is the energy symbol. It represents one energy counter.

When Aether Hub enters, you get {E} (an energy counter).
{T}: Add {C}.
{T}, Pay {E}: Add one mana of any color.

Avaati Vya's invention stabilized raw aether, but even she didn't know it would also create life.

Aether Refinery

If you would get one or more {E}, you get twice that many {E} instead.
{T}: You get {E}, then you may pay one or more {E}. If you do, create an X/X black Aetherborn creature token, where X is the amount of {E} paid this way.

If two or more effects attempt to modify how many {E} you get (or how many counters you would get), you choose the order to apply those effects, no matter who controls the sources of those effects.

If you control two Aether Refineries, the amount of {E} you get is four times the original number. Three Aether Refineries multiplies the original number by eight, and so on.

If you would get one or more {E} (energy counters), you get twice that many {E} instead.
{T}: You get {E}, then you may pay one or more {E}. If you do, create an X/X black Aetherborn creature token, where X is the amount of {E} paid this way.

Aether Revolt

Revolt — As long as a permanent you controlled left the battlefield this turn, if a source you control would deal noncombat damage to an opponent or a permanent an opponent controls, it deals that much damage plus 2 instead.
Whenever you get one or more {E}, Aether Revolt deals that much damage to any target.

If an effect instructs you to get one or more {E} and then allows you to spend {E}, Aether Revolt's last ability will see the amount of {E} you got. It doesn't matter how much {E} you spend after that.

If another effect modifies how much damage a source would deal to an opponent or a permanent they control, including preventing some of it, the player being dealt damage or the controller of the permanent being dealt damage chooses an order in which to apply those effects. If all of the damage is prevented, Aether Revolt's effect no longer applies.

If noncombat damage dealt by a source you control is being divided or assigned among multiple opponents and/or permanents opponents control, divide the original amount before adding 2. For example, if you cast a spell that deals 4 damage divided among any number of targets and you choose to have it deal 2 damage to a creature and 2 damage to that creature's controller, that spell will deal 4 damage to each of them instead.

If you get multiple {E} at once, Aether Revolt's last ability will trigger only once. When the triggered ability resolves, it will deal damage to the target equal to the amount of {E} you gained.

Once a permanent you control leaves the battlefield, Aether Revolt's revolt ability will apply to noncombat damage dealt by sources you control until the turn ends or Aether Revolt leaves the battlefield, whichever happens first. It doesn't matter what happens to the card or token that left the battlefield afterward.

The additional damage is dealt by the original source of the damage, not by Aether Revolt.

Aether Spike

Choose target spell. You get {E}{E} (two energy counters), then you may pay any amount of {E}. Counter that spell unless its controller pays {1} for each {E} paid this way.

You choose the target spell as you cast Aether Spike. You don't choose how much {E} to pay until Aether Spike is resolving. No player may take actions between the time you choose how much {E} to pay and the time the target spell's controller chooses whether or not to pay {1} for each {E} paid this way.

You may pay zero {E}. You will get {E}{E}, and the target spell will resolve as long as its controller chooses to pay {0}. In most cases, this won't be a difficult choice for them.

Choose target spell. You get {E}{E}, then you may pay any amount of {E}. Counter that spell unless its controller pays {1} for each {E} paid this way.

Gremlins in the wild feed on nodules of pure aether, which are also prized by miners.

Aethergeode Miner

Whenever Aethergeode Miner attacks, you get {E}{E} (two energy counters).
Pay {E}{E}: Exile Aethergeode Miner, then return it to the battlefield under its owner's control.

After Aethergeode Miner returns to the battlefield, it will be a new object with no connection to the creature that was exiled. It won't be in combat or have any additional abilities it may have had when it was exiled. Any +1/+1 counters on it or Auras attached to it are removed, and any Equipment will no longer be attached.

Aethersphere Harvester

Flying
When Aethersphere Harvester enters the battlefield, you get {E}{E} (two energy counters).
Pay {E}: Aethersphere Harvester gains lifelink until end of turn.
Crew 1 (Tap any number of creatures you control with total power 1 or more: This Vehicle becomes an artifact creature until end of turn.)

multiple instances of lifelink on the same creature are redundant.

Any untapped creature you control can be tapped to pay a crew cost, even one that just came under your control.

Creatures that crew a Vehicle aren't attached to it or related in any other way. Effects that affect the Vehicle, such as by destroying it or giving it a +1/+1 counter, don't affect the creatures that crewed it.

Each Vehicle is printed with a power and toughness, but it's not a creature. If it becomes a creature (most likely through its crew ability), it will have that power and toughness.

For a Vehicle to be able to attack, it must be a creature as the declare attackers step begins, so the latest you can activate its crew ability to attack with it is during the beginning of combat step. For a Vehicle to be able to block, it must be a creature as the declare blockers step begins, so the latest you can activate its crew ability to block with it is during the declare attackers step. In either case, players may take actions after the crew ability resolves but before the Vehicle has been declared as an attacking or blocking creature.

If a permanent becomes a copy of a Vehicle, the copy won't be a creature, even if the Vehicle it's copying has become an artifact creature.

If an effect causes a Vehicle to become an artifact creature with a specified power and toughness, that effect overwrites the Vehicle's printed power and toughness.

Once a Vehicle becomes a creature, it behaves exactly like any other artifact creature. It can't attack unless you've controlled it continuously since your turn began, it can block if it's untapped, it can be tapped to pay a Vehicle's crew cost, and so on.

Once a player announces that they are activating a crew ability, no player may take other actions until the ability has been paid for. Notably, players can't try to stop the ability by changing a creature's power or by removing or tapping a creature.

Vehicle is an artifact type, not a creature type. A Vehicle that's crewed won't normally have any creature type.

When a Vehicle becomes a creature, that doesn't count as having a creature enter the battlefield. The permanent was already on the battlefield; it only changed its types. Abilities that trigger whenever a creature enters the battlefield won't trigger.

You may activate a crew ability of a Vehicle even if it's already an artifact creature. Doing so has no effect on the Vehicle. It doesn't change its power and toughness.

You may tap more creatures than necessary to activate a crew ability.

Whenever Aetherstorm Roc attacks, you may pay {E}{E}. If you do, put a +1/+1 counter on it and tap up to one target creature defending player controls.

A creature entering the battlefield at the same time as Aetherstorm Roc causes its first triggered ability to trigger.

Aetherstorm Roc's second triggered ability resolves before blockers are chosen. A creature tapped this way won't be able to block.

You don't have to target a creature with Aetherstorm Roc's last ability. If you do choose a target, and that target becomes illegal, the ability doesn't resolve and you won't be able to pay {E}{E} to put a counter on Aetherstorm Roc.

Aetherworks Marvel

Whenever a permanent you control is put into a graveyard, you get {E} (an energy counter).
{T}, Pay six {E}: Look at the top six cards of your library. You may cast a spell from among them without paying its mana cost. Put the rest on the bottom of your library in a random order.

Aetherworks Marvel's first ability triggers whenever any permanent you control is put into a graveyard from the battlefield, including Aetherworks Marvel itself and other permanents put into a graveyard at the same time as it.

If the card has {X} in its mana cost, you must choose 0 as the value of X when casting it without paying its mana cost.

If you cast a card "without paying its mana cost," you can't choose to cast it for any alternative costs, such as emerge costs. You can, however, pay additional costs. If the card has any mandatory additional costs, such as that of Incendiary Sabotage, you must pay those to cast the card.

The card cast with Aetherworks Marvel's second ability is cast from your library.

Tokens that are sacrificed or destroyed are put into their owner's graveyard before ceasing to exist. If you controlled the token, Aetherworks Marvel's first ability will trigger.

Aggressive Biomancy

Create X tokens that are copies of target creature you control, except they have "When this creature enters the battlefield, it fights up to one target creature you don't control."

Any enters-the-battlefield abilities of the copied creature will trigger when the tokens enter the battlefield. Any "as [this creature] enters the battlefield" or "[this creature] enters the battlefield with" abilities of the creature will also work.

If the copied creature has {X} in its mana cost, X is 0.

If the copied creature is copying something else, then the tokens enter the battlefield as whatever that creature copied, with the listed exception.

If the copied creature is itself a token, the tokens created by Aggressive Biomancy copy the original characteristics of that token as stated by the effect that created it, with the listed exception.

The tokens copy exactly what was printed on the original creature and nothing else, with the listed exception (unless that creature is itself copying something else; see below). They don't copy whether that creature is tapped or untapped, whether it has any counters on it or Auras attached to it, or any non-copy effects that have changed its power, toughness, types, color, and so on.

Create X tokens that are copies of target creature you control, except they have "When this creature enters, it fights up to one target creature you don't control."

Ajani Fells the Godsire

Akroma's Will

Choose one. If you control a commander as you cast this spell, you may choose both instead.
• Creatures you control gain flying, vigilance, and double strike until end of turn.
• Creatures you control gain lifelink, indestructible, and protection from each color until end of turn.

Even though the card is named after a specific character, controlling any commander will satisfy its condition.

Once you've announced that you're casting a spell, players can't take any actions until you've finished doing so. Notably, opponents can't try to remove your commander to change how many modes you may choose.

Once you've chosen both modes for the spell, it doesn't matter whether you continue to control a commander. This is true even if you somehow no longer control a commander as you finish casting the spell.

The commander you control doesn't have to be your commander.

There's no extra bonus if you control more than one commander.

All Is Dust

Each player sacrifices all permanents they control that are one or more colors.

All permanents with one or more colors are sacrificed at the same time.

Lands have no mana cost, so they are colorless unless an effect states otherwise.

Tokens may have one or more colors. The effect that creates a token states what color it is or whether it's colorless.

All Is Dust doesn't destroy permanents. Rather, it causes them to be sacrificed. Regeneration, umbra armor, and indestructible can't save permanents from All Is Dust.

A land card that produces colored mana, even a land with a basic land type, normally has no color.

Kindred is a card type that allows noncreature cards to have creature types. For example, Echoes of Eternity is an Eldrazi (although not a creature) while on the battlefield and an Eldrazi card (although not a creature card) in zones other than the battlefield.

This cards was originally printed with the "tribal" card type. That card type has been replaced with "kindred". This change does not affect the gameplay function of this card.

While it appears only on cards that already have other card types, kindred is a card type and will be counted by effects that refer to the number of card types among cards in a zone.

Altar of the Goyf

Whenever a creature you control attacks alone, it gets +X/+X until end of turn, where X is the number of card types among cards in all graveyards.
Lhurgoyf creatures you control have trample.

A creature attacks alone if it's the only creature declared as an attacker during the declare attackers step (including creatures controlled by your teammates, if applicable). For example, Altar of the Goyf's first ability won't trigger if you attack with multiple creatures and all but one of them are removed from combat.

If Altar of the Goyf somehow becomes a creature and the effect allows to keep its other types, it will give itself trample.

The card types that can appear in a graveyard are artifact, battle, creature, enchantment, instant, kindred, land, planeswalker, and sorcery. Legendary, basic, and snow are supertypes, not card types; Aura and Lhurgoyf are subtypes, not card types.

Amped Raptor

First strike
When Amped Raptor enters the battlefield, you get {E}{E} (two energy counters). Then if you cast it from your hand, exile cards from the top of your library until you exile a nonland card. You may cast that card by paying an amount of {E} equal to its mana value rather than paying its mana cost.

Any land cards exiled with Amped Raptor's triggered ability will remain in exile. If you choose not to cast the exiled nonland card (either because you don't have enough {E} or you just don't want to), that card will remain in exile as well.

If you cast a spell for another cost "rather than paying its mana cost," you can't choose to cast it for any alternative costs. You can, however, pay additional costs, such as kicker costs. If the spell has any mandatory additional costs, those must be paid to cast it.

You choose whether or not to cast the exiled nonland card as Amped Raptor's triggered ability resolves. If you do, you do so as part of the resolution of that ability. You can't wait to cast it later in the turn. Timing restrictions based on the card's type are ignored.

First strike
When Amped Raptor enters, you get {E}{E} (two energy counters). Then if you cast it from your hand, exile cards from the top of your library until you exile a nonland card. You may cast that card by paying an amount of {E} equal to its mana value rather than paying its mana cost.

Amphibian Downpour

Enchant creature
Enchanted creature loses all abilities and is a blue Frog creature with base power and toughness 1/1.

A copy of a spell can be countered like any other spell, but it must be countered individually. Countering a spell with storm won't affect the copies.

Amphibian Downpour may enchant a permanent that is only temporarily a creature, such as a Vehicle. If this happens, Amphibian Downpour's effect causes the enchanted permanent to remain a 1/1 blue Frog creature even after the temporary effect making it a creature expires.

Amphibian Downpour overwrites all colors and creature types the enchanted creature has. It's just a blue Frog. The creature keeps any supertypes it has (such as legendary) but loses any other card types it has (such as artifact).

Amphibian Downpour overwrites all previous effects that set the creature's base power and toughness to specific values. Any power- or toughness-setting effects that start to apply afterward will overwrite this effect.

Because damage remains marked on a creature until the damage is removed as the turn ends, nonlethal damage dealt to a creature may become lethal if Amphibian Downpour becomes attached to it during that turn.

Effects that modify the creature's power and/or toughness, such as the effect of Wing It, will apply to the creature no matter when they started to take effect. The same is true for counters that change its power and/or toughness and effects that switch its power and toughness.

If the enchanted creature gains an ability after Amphibian Downpour becomes attached to it, it will keep that ability.

If the enchanted creature has any subtypes other than creature types, such as Equipment, Vehicle, or Urza's, it loses those as well.

Spells cast from zones other than a player's hand and spells that were countered or otherwise failed to resolve are counted by the storm ability.

The copies are put directly onto the stack. They aren't cast and won't be counted by other spells with storm cast later in the turn.

The triggered ability that creates the copies can itself be countered by anything that can counter a triggered ability. If it is countered, no copies will be put onto the stack.

You may choose new targets for any of the copies. You can make different choices for each copy.

Fabricate doesn't cause the creature with the ability to enter the battlefield with +1/+1 counters already on it. For example, Weaponcraft Enthusiast will enter the battlefield as a 0/1 creature, then its fabricate ability goes on the stack. Players may take actions (such as casting instants) while the ability is waiting to resolve.

If you can't put +1/+1 counters on the creature for any reason as fabricate resolves (for instance, if it's no longer on the battlefield), you just create Servo tokens.

You choose whether to put +1/+1 counters on the creature or create Servo tokens as the fabricate ability is resolving. No player may take actions between the time you choose and the time that counters are added or tokens are created.

Previously, in cases where a card's mana value differed from the resulting spell, such as with some modal double-faced cards or cards with an Adventure, you could cast a spell with a higher mana value than the exiled card.

If a spell with cascade is countered, the cascade ability will still resolve normally.
