Affectionate Indrik

When Affectionate Indrik enters the battlefield, you may have it fight target creature you don't control. (Each deals damage equal to its power to the other.)

If the target creature is an illegal target when Affectionate Indrik’s ability tries to resolve, the ability doesn’t resolve. If Affectionate Indrik is no longer on the battlefield, the target creature won’t deal or be dealt damage.

You choose the target of the triggered ability as it goes on the stack, but you choose whether the creatures fight as that ability resolves.

As far as the Orzhov Syndicate is concerned, it is the height of irresponsibility not to have a plan for your own ghost.

Afterlife Insurance

Creatures you control gain afterlife 1 until end of turn. Draw a card. (When a creature with afterlife 1 dies, create a 1/1 white and black Spirit creature token with flying.)

Planeswalkers conjured replicas of old allies, reminders of the homeworlds that would fall next if Bolas prevailed.

Ajani's Pridemate

Whenever you gain life, put a +1/+1 counter on Ajani's Pridemate.

Each creature with lifelink dealing combat damage causes a separate life-gaining event. For example, if two creatures you control with lifelink deal combat damage at the same time, Ajani's Pridemate's ability will trigger twice. However, if a single creature you control with lifelink deals combat damage to multiple creatures, players, and/or planeswalkers at the same time (perhaps because it has trample or was blocked by more than one creature), the ability will trigger only once.

If Ajani's Pridemate is dealt lethal damage at the same time that you gain life, it won't receive a counter from its ability in time to save it.

If you gain an amount of life "for each" of something, that life is gained as one event and the ability of Ajani's Pridemate triggers only once.

In a Two-Headed Giant game, life gained by your teammate won't cause the ability to trigger, even though it caused your team's life total to increase.

The ability of Ajani's Pridemate triggers just once for each life-gaining event, whether it's 1 life from Paradise Plume or 2 life from Mycologist.

Amzu, Swarm's Hunger

Whenever one or more cards leave your graveyard, you may create a 1/1 black and green Insect creature token, then put a number of +1/+1 counters on it equal to the greatest mana value among those cards. Do this only once each turn.

Angel of Vitality

If you would gain life, you gain that much life plus 1 instead.
Angel of Vitality gets +2/+2 as long as you have 25 or more life.

Because damage remains marked on a creature until it’s removed as the turn ends, nonlethal damage dealt to Angel of Vitality may become lethal if your life total drops below 25 during that turn.

Each creature with lifelink dealing combat damage causes a separate life-gaining event. For example, if two creatures you control with lifelink deal combat damage at the same time, Angel of Vitality’s second ability will apply twice. If Angel of Vitality is dealt damage and your life total is increased above 25 before state-based actions are performed (most likely because Angel of Vitality is dealt combat damage at the same time that a creature you control with lifelink deals combat damage), Angel of Vitality’s last ability applies before checking whether it’s destroyed for having lethal damage marked on it.

If you control two Angels of Vitality and you would gain life, you gain that much life plus 2. A third Angel of Vitality has you gain that much life plus 3, and so on.

In a Two-Headed Giant game, Angel of Vitality’s last ability applies as long as your team’s life total is 25 or more.

In a Two-Headed Giant game, life gained by your teammate won’t cause Angel of Vitality’s second ability to apply, even though it will cause your team’s life total to increase.

In multiplayer formats where your life total doesn’t start at 20, Angel of Vitality’s last ability still applies if your life total is 25 or more.

The middle ability of Angel of Vitality applies just once to each life-gaining event, whether it’s 1 life from Impassioned Orator or 4 life from Dawning Angel. If you gain an amount of life “for each” of something or “equal to the number” of something, that life is gained as one event and the ability of Angel of Vitality applies only once.

Azorius Arrester

Activated abilities include a colon and are written in the form “[cost]: [effect].” No one can activate any activated abilities, including mana abilities, of a detained permanent.

If a creature is already attacking or blocking when it’s detained, it won’t be removed from combat. It will continue to attack or block.

If a noncreature permanent is detained and later turns into a creature, it won’t be able to attack or block.

If a permanent’s activated ability is on the stack when that permanent is detained, the ability will be unaffected.

The static abilities of a detained permanent still apply. The triggered abilities of a detained permanent can still trigger.

When a player leaves a multiplayer game, any continuous effects with durations that last until that player’s next turn or until a specific point in that turn will last until that turn would have begun. They neither expire immediately nor last indefinitely.

The amount of life you gain from extort is based on the total amount of life lost, not necessarily the number of opponents you have. For example, if your opponent’s life total can’t change (perhaps because that player controls Platinum Emperion), you won’t gain any life.

The extort ability doesn’t target any player.

You may pay {W/B} a maximum of one time for each extort triggered ability. You decide whether to pay when the ability resolves.

Flying
Extort (Whenever you cast a spell, you may pay {W/B}. If you do, each opponent loses 1 life and you gain that much life.)

Krushoks clear debris from fertile fields, fallow fields, and battlefields.

Battlefront Krushok

Battlefront Krushok can't be blocked by more than one creature.

The second ability applies only as blockers are declared. If a creature you control with no +1/+1 counters on it becomes blocked by more than one creature, putting a +1/+1 counter on it won’t change or undo the block.

A card’s spectacle cost is the same no matter how much life your opponents lost or how many opponents lost life.

Damage dealt to a player causes that player to lose that much life.

In a multiplayer game, if an opponent loses life and later that turn leaves the game, you can cast a spell for its spectacle cost. (If a player leaves the game during their turn, that turn continues without an active player.)

Spectacle doesn’t change when you can cast the card. For example, you can’t cast a sorcery with spectacle during an opponent’s turn unless another effect allows you to do so, even if that player has lost life this turn.

To determine the total cost of a spell, start with the mana cost or alternative cost you’re paying (such as a spectacle cost), add any cost increases, then apply any cost reductions. The mana value of the spell remains unchanged, no matter what the total cost to cast it was.

Blood Crypt

As Blood Crypt enters the battlefield, you may pay 2 life. If you don't, it enters the battlefield tapped.

If an effect puts this land onto the battlefield tapped, you may pay 2 life, but it still enters tapped.

Unlike most dual lands, this land has two basic land types. It's not basic, so cards such as District Guide can't find it, but it does have the appropriate land types for effects such as that of Drowned Catacomb (from the Ixalan set).

Activating Chainwhip Cyclops’s ability after a creature has blocked won’t remove the blocking creature from combat or cause the creature it blocked to become unblocked.

Challenger Troll’s ability affects itself as long as its power remains 4 or greater.

If a creature you control with power 4 or greater has menace, it can’t be blocked by only one creature and it can’t be blocked by more than one creature, so it simply can’t be blocked.

Once a creature you control with power 3 or less has become blocked by two or more creatures, changing its power won’t cause either blocking creature to stop blocking it.

Jump-start (You may cast this card from your graveyard by discarding a card in addition to paying its other costs. Then exile this card.)

A spell cast using jump-start will always be exiled afterward, whether it resolves, it’s countered, or it leaves the stack in some other way.

If a card with jump-start is put into your graveyard during your turn, you’ll be able to cast it right away if it’s legal to do so, before an opponent can take any actions.

If an effect allows you to pay an alternative cost rather than a spell’s mana cost, you may pay that alternative cost when you jump-start a spell. You’ll still discard a card as an additional cost to cast it.

You must still follow any timing restrictions and permissions, including those based on the card’s type. For instance, you can cast a sorcery using jump-start only when you could normally cast a sorcery.

Addendum abilities of instant spells apply while the spell is resolving, not immediately after casting it. If the spell is countered, you don’t get the addendum bonus. For example, if you cast Sphinx’s Insight during your main phase, you gain 2 life during its resolution, after you draw two cards.

Code of Constraint can target a creature that’s already tapped. If you cast it during your main phase, that creature won’t untap during its controller’s next untap step.

If a spell with an addendum ability is copied, the copy won’t give you the addendum bonus. This is because the copy wasn’t cast at all.

If the target creature is an illegal target by the time Code of Constraint tries to resolve, the spell doesn’t resolve. You don’t draw a card.

If you don't control a creature with power 4 or greater as your upkeep begins, Colossal Majesty's ability won't trigger. You can't take any actions during your turn before your upkeep begins.

The creature with power 4 or greater that you control as Colossal Majesty's ability resolves doesn't have to be the same creature with power 4 or greater that was under your control as the ability triggered.

You draw only one card, no matter how many creatures with power 4 or greater you control.

Auras attached to the exiled permanent will be put into their owners' graveyards. Any Equipment will become unattached and remain on the battlefield. Any counters on the exiled permanent will cease to exist. When the card returns to the battlefield, it will be a new object with no connection to the card that was exiled.

If Conclave Tribunal leaves the battlefield before its triggered ability resolves, the target permanent won't be exiled.

If a token is exiled this way, it will cease to exist and won't return to the battlefield.

If a creature you control has a mana ability with {T} in the cost, activating that ability while casting a spell with convoke will result in the creature being tapped before you pay the spell's costs. You won't be able to tap it again for convoke. Similarly, if you sacrifice a creature to activate a mana ability while casting a spell with convoke, that creature won't be on the battlefield when you pay the spell's costs, so you won't be able to tap it for convoke.

When calculating a spell's total cost, include any alternative costs, additional costs, or anything else that increases or reduces the cost to cast the spell. Convoke applies after the total cost is calculated. Convoke doesn't change a spell's mana cost or mana value.

You can tap any untapped creature you control to convoke a spell, even one you haven't controlled continuously since the beginning of your most recent turn.

Cosmotronic Wave

Cosmotronic Wave deals 1 damage to each creature your opponents control. Creatures your opponents control can't block this turn.

Because Cosmotronic Wave doesn’t change the characteristics of any permanents, the set of creatures affected by its second effect is constantly updated. Creatures that come under an opponent’s control later in the turn can’t block.

When its power is threatened, the council speaks with a unified voice.

Council's Judgment

Will of the council — Starting with you, each player votes for a nonland permanent you don't control. Exile each permanent with the most votes or tied for most votes.

Because the votes are cast in turn order, each player will know the votes of players who voted beforehand.

Each player must vote for one of the candidate permanents. They can't abstain.

In the unusual case that no permanents have any votes, nothing is exiled.

No player votes until the spell or ability resolves. Any responses to that spell or ability must be made without knowing the outcome of the vote.

None of the candidate permanents are targeted. Players may vote for a permanent with protection from white, for example.

Players can't do anything after they finishing voting but before the "winning" permanent or permanents are exiled.

Wealthier than ever thanks to exorbitant interest on wartime loans, the Orzhov only grew hungrier for more.

Covetous Elegy
