Abomination

The color of the blocking/blocked creature is checked only at declaration of the block. If the creature is green or white at that time, it will be destroyed at end of combat even if it changes color before combat ends.

Whenever Abomination blocks or becomes blocked by a green or white creature, destroy that creature at end of combat.

At the end of combat, destroy all green and white creatures blocking or blocked by Abomination.

Air Elemental

These spirits of the air are winsome and wild and cannot be truly contained. Only marginally intelligent, they often substitute whimsy for strategy, delighting in mischief and mayhem.

Amrou Kithkin

A creature with power 3 or greater can’t be declared as a blocker for Amrou Kithkin. If the power of a creature that’s already blocking Amrou Kithkin is increased to 3 or greater, it will continue to block Amrou Kithkin.

Amrou Kithkin can't be blocked by creatures with power 3 or greater.

Quick and agile, Amrou Kithkin can usually escape from even the most fearsome opponents.

No creature with power greater than 2 may be assigned to block Kithkin.

Amulet of Kroog

{2}, {T}: Prevent the next 1 damage that would be dealt to any target this turn.

Among the first allies Urza gained were the people of Kroog. As a sign of friendship, Urza gave the healers of the city potent amulets; afterwards, thousands journeyed to Kroog in hope of healing.

During your turn, Angry Mob's power and toughness are each equal to 2 plus the number of Swamps your opponents control. During turns other than yours, Angry Mob's power and toughness are each 2.

Animate Artifact

A noncreature permanent that turns into a creature can attack, and its {T} abilities can be activated, only if its controller has continuously controlled that permanent since the beginning of their most recent turn. It doesn't matter how long the permanent has been a creature.

This card has been returned to its original functionality. If it is enchanting an artifact that's already a creature, it won't change its power and toughness.

Enchant artifact
As long as enchanted artifact isn't a creature, it's an artifact creature with power and toughness each equal to its mana value.

Target artifact becomes an artifact creature with power and toughness each equal to its casting cost; target retains all its original abilities. Animate Artifact does not affect artifact creatures.

Animate Dead

Abilities such as shroud and protection function only on the battlefield unless otherwise specified. A creature card with shroud may be targeted by Animate Dead, and Animate Dead will become attached to the creature that enters the battlefield.

Animate Dead is an Aura, albeit with an unusual enchant ability. You target a creature card in a graveyard when you cast it. It enters the battlefield attached to that card. Then it returns that card to the battlefield, and attaches itself to the card again (since the card is a new object on the battlefield). Animate Dead itself never moves into a graveyard during this process.

If Animate Dead isn't on the battlefield as its triggered ability resolves, none of its effects happen. The creature card won't be returned to the battlefield.

If the creature put onto the battlefield has protection from black—or if the creature can't legally be enchanted by Animate Dead for another reason—Animate Dead won't be able to attach to it. It will be put into the graveyard as a state-based action, causing its delayed triggered ability to trigger. When the trigger resolves, if the creature's still on the battlefield, its controller will sacrifice it.

Once the creature is returned to the battlefield, Animate Dead can't be attached to anything other than it (unless Animate Dead somehow manages to put a different creature onto the battlefield). Attempting to move Animate Dead to another creature won't work.

Enchant creature card in a graveyard
When Animate Dead enters, if it's on the battlefield, it loses "enchant creature card in a graveyard" and gains "enchant creature put onto the battlefield with Animate Dead." Return enchanted creature card to the battlefield under your control and attach Animate Dead to it. When Animate Dead leaves the battlefield, that creature's controller sacrifices it.
Enchanted creature gets -1/-0.

Take target creature from any graveyard and put it directly into play under your control with -1/-0. Treat this creature as though it were just summoned. If Animate Dead is removed, bury the creature in its owner's graveyard.

Animate Wall

This is a change from the most recent wording. As was the case in the past, Animate Wall can now enchant only a Wall.

Enchanted Wall can attack as though it didn't have defender.

Ankh of Mishra

It determines the land's controller at the time the ability resolves. If the land leaves the battlefield before the ability resolves, the land's last controller before it left is used.

This triggers on any land entering. This includes playing a land or putting a land onto the battlefield using a spell or ability.

Whenever a land enters, Ankh of Mishra deals 2 damage to that land's controller.

Each time a player puts a land into play, Ankh of Mishra deals 2 damage to that player.

Armageddon Clock

Players can remove as many counters as they can pay for each turn.

At the beginning of your upkeep, put a doom counter on Armageddon Clock.
At the beginning of your draw step, Armageddon Clock deals damage equal to the number of doom counters on it to each player.
{4}: Remove a doom counter from Armageddon Clock. Any player may activate this ability but only during any upkeep step.

During your upkeep, put one doom counter on Armageddon Clock. At the end of your upkeep, Armageddon Clock deals X damage to each player, where X is the number of doom counters on Armageddon Clock. During any upkeep, any player may pay o4 to remove a doom counter from Armageddon Clock.

Ashes to Ashes

If both of the targeted creatures are illegal targets by the time Ashes to Ashes resolves, it’s countered. It doesn’t deal 5 damage to you.

If one of the targeted creatures is an illegal target by the time Ashes to Ashes resolves, it still exiles the other one and deals 5 damage to you.

Exile two target nonartifact creatures. Ashes to Ashes deals 5 damage to you.

Ashnod's Battle Gear

You may choose not to untap Ashnod's Battle Gear during your untap step.
{2}, {T}: Target creature you control gets +2/-2 for as long as Ashnod's Battle Gear remains tapped.

This invention shows why Ashnod was feared by her troops as well as her foes.

Aspect of Wolf

The effect is continuously updated based on the number of Forests you control at any given time.

Increase target creature's power and toughness by half the number of forests you control, rounding down for power and up for toughness.

Backfire

Enchant creature
Whenever enchanted creature deals damage to you, Backfire deals that much damage to that creature's controller.

Backfire deals 1 damage to target creature's controller for each 1 damage dealt to you by that creature.

Bad Moon

Balance

Balance doesn't have targets, so permanents that can't be targeted, such as a creature with shroud or protection from white, are valid choices to be sacrificed.

Each type of object is counted during the corresponding part of the process. Cards in hand are counted after lands have been sacrificed, and creatures on the battlefield are counted after cards have been discarded. Thus, a land creature sacrificed to the first part of the spell would not be counted when determining how many creatures are on the battlefield for the last part.

First the player whose turn it is chooses which lands (if any) to keep, then each other player in turn order does the same. Each player will know the choices made by the players who chose before them. All of the unchosen lands are then sacrificed simultaneously. Then the process is repeated for cards in hand, except that no cards are revealed until all players have chosen what to discard, at which point those cards are all discarded simultaneously. Lastly, the process is repeated for creatures, and players will again know earlier choices made when deciding what to sacrifice. All of the unchosen creatures are then sacrificed simultaneously.

Each player chooses a number of lands they control equal to the number of lands controlled by the player who controls the fewest, then sacrifices the rest. Players discard cards and sacrifice creatures the same way.

Each player sacrifices enough lands to equalize the number of lands all players control. The player who controls the fewest lands cannot sacrifice any in this way. All players then equalize cards in hand and then creatures in play in the same way.

Ball Lightning

The creature is sacrificed at the end of every turn in which it is on the battlefield. There is no choice about what turn to sacrifice it.

Trample (This creature can deal excess combat damage to the player or planeswalker it's attacking.)
Haste (This creature can attack and {T} as soon as it comes under your control.)
At the beginning of the end step, sacrifice Ball Lightning.

Trample
Ball Lightning can attack the turn it comes into play. At the end of any turn, bury Ball Lightning.

Battering Ram

A maximum of one nonbanding creature can join an attacking band no matter how many creatures with banding are in it.

Creatures in the same band must all attack the same player or planeswalker.

If a creature with banding attacks, it can team up with any number of other attacking creatures with banding (and up to one nonbanding creature) and attack as a unit called a “band.” The band can be blocked by any creature that could block a single creature in the band. Blocking any creature in a band blocks the entire band. If a creature with banding is blocked, the attacking player chooses how the blockers’ damage is assigned.

If a creature in combat has banding, its controller assigns damage for creatures blocking or blocked by it. That player can ignore the damage assignment order when making this assignment.

At the beginning of combat on your turn, Battering Ram gains banding until end of combat. (Any creatures with banding, and up to one without, can attack in a band. Bands are blocked as a group. If any creatures with banding you control are being blocked by a creature, you divide that creature's combat damage, not its controller, among any of the creatures it's blocking.)
Whenever Battering Ram becomes blocked by a Wall, destroy that Wall at end of combat.

By the time Mishra was defeated, no mage was foolish enough to rely heavily on walls.

Benalish Hero

Banding (Any creatures with banding, and up to one without, can attack in a band. Bands are blocked as a group. If any creatures with banding you control are blocking or being blocked by a creature, you divide that creature's combat damage, not its controller, among any of the creatures it's being blocked by or is blocking.)

Benalia has a complex caste system that changes with the lunar year. No matter what the season, the only caste that cannot be attained by either heredity or money is that of the Hero.

Black Vise

You choose one opposing player as it enters and it only affects that one player. This choice is not changed even if Black Vise changes controllers. It becomes useless but stays on the battlefield if that player leaves the game.

If the chosen player has four or fewer cards in their hand as Black Vise's ability resolves, the ability just won't do anything that turn.

As Black Vise enters, choose an opponent.
At the beginning of the chosen player's upkeep, Black Vise deals X damage to that player, where X is the number of cards in their hand minus 4.

At the end of target opponent's upkeep, Black Vise deals that player 1 damage for each card in his or her hand in excess of four.

Black Ward

Enchant creature
Enchanted creature has protection from black. This effect doesn't remove Black Ward.

Target creature gains protection from black. The protection granted by Black Ward does not destroy Black Ward.

Blessing

Blood Lust

Has changed slightly in functionality, with the old continuous nature of the toughness reduction gone away; the toughness change remains static. For example, if you have three Swamps and Nightmare on the battlefield and then cast Blood Lust on it, it will become 7/1. If one of your Swamps is subsequently destroyed, your Nightmare will become 6/0 and be put in the graveyard.

If target creature has toughness 5 or greater, it gets +4/-4 until end of turn. Otherwise, it gets +4/-X until end of turn, where X is its toughness minus 1.

Target creature gets +4/-4 until end of turn. If this reduces creature's toughness to less than 1, creature's toughness becomes 1.

Blue Elemental Blast

The decision to counter a spell or destroy a permanent is a decision made on announcement before the target is selected. If the spell is redirected, this mode can't be changed, so only targets of the selected type are valid.

Bottle of Suleiman

The coin is flipped on resolution and not on declaration of the ability.

{1}, Sacrifice Bottle of Suleiman: Flip a coin. If you win the flip, create a 5/5 colorless Djinn artifact creature token with flying. If you lose the flip, Bottle of Suleiman deals 5 damage to you.

o1: Sacrifice Bottle of Suleiman. Flip a coin; target opponent calls heads or tails while coin is in the air. If the flip ends up in opponent's favor, Bottle of Suleiman deals 5 damage to you. Otherwise, put a Djinn token into play. Treat this token as a 5/5 artifact creature with flying.

Brainwash

If there are multiple combat phases during the turn, the attack cost must be paid each time if you want to attack with the creature.

Paying this cost is not an instant or any other kind of ability, it is an additional cost on the declaration of the attacker.

This ability is paid for during the declare attackers step of the combat phase.

Enchant creature
Enchanted creature can't attack unless its controller pays {3}.

Brass Man

Reworded so that it triggers only once at beginning of upkeep, instead of being an activated ability usable any time during your upkeep. You can no longer make infinite combos with this ability.

Brass Man doesn't untap during your untap step.
At the beginning of your upkeep, you may pay {1}. If you do, untap Brass Man.

Brass Man does not untap during your untap phase.

Bronze Tablet

If the card being targeted by the Bronze Tablet is removed before Tablet takes effect, then the Tablet ability doesn’t resolve and it remains tapped.

If using a copy of the Tablet, you must trade the copy card to your opponent just like you would have traded the Tablet.

You can take control of your opponent’s Tablet and in the trade you only have to give them back their Tablet.

You can’t choose to pay 10 life if you have less than 10 life, but you may choose to give up the game immediately. This has roughly the same effect.

If the tablet is not still on the battlefield when the ability resolves, it is not exiled. The other player still has the choice to pay 10 life, and you still become the owner of their card if they choose not to do so.
